It’s simple… stop diving in… let Mercy heal you… don’t hide and keep healing… oh like we always did except those moments where we disengage and duck out of a fight so that we don’t die with res.
See… hide and res was a vague misconception… there is no basis to this claim. Mercy farms ult charge by healing, so if she off hiding all the time then she isn’t farming her ult.
Right now, there is no real reason to compel Mercy to help her team since there is no back up when things get messy… she can only heal what she can and teams basically need to stop jumping in with a subconcious mindset, OH MERCY WILL SAVE US WITH RES!!!
Because that ain’t happening… honestly… playing a little bit reserve makes a huge difference.
Yeah but you have to also consider the other reason Ana isn’t played. Even now… with or without buff/nerf… she doesn’t feel all that different.
The reason she was widely dropped is the subconscious understanding that she has no place in Dive.
You can’t heal something you can’t hit… example, Dive characters like D.Va, Winston, Tracer and Genji who are actively evading and moving about causing you to miss more.
Mercy was better because she was consistent and Lucio and Zen whilst strong in the upper ranks and pro league, they were in fact not ideal in the casual competitive and they cannot compensate for Ana’s mistakes.
The current situation is that people still play far too recklessly and it basically denies Mercy the chance to heal which in turn, reduces the rate of her Ult charge as well as Moira’s competing with Mercy for most healing done.
Genji jumping into a 1vs6… people over extending… People engaging and dying in really stupid spots or even hiding or ditching Mercy behind.
Mercy entire ult charge is dependant on Healing (always has, always will)… also it doesn’t matter if she lost 10HPS… she can still solo heal, but it is a little or rather tiny bit more difficult… around Season 2 standard… but 50HPS was nothing new…
Other players, has to accept the fact that Mercy is healing 10HPS less and she doesn’t have mass or instant res so they need to play more like the earlier seasons, 2016 style where we just death ball everything.
It also helps Ana because she can just keep pumping those darts into tanks.
Plus Mercy current ultimate… Valkyrie… honestly if you have to rely on that Ultimate to make your majority heals then you have issues, since Mercy base kit is actually quite strong if you can manage your team and if your team allows you to heal.
Compare to resurrect, Valkyrie is insignificant and Pro’s and us Mercy mains have proven that with skill and experience, we don’t have to rely on that easy mode ult.
This thread is honestly so good and informative, but Blizzard are probably gunna ignore it for a few months since people would lose their crap if Mercy was buffed/reworked in any way.
Why not have all the souls become visible and have light streaks going from the soul to mercy as she’s ressurecting?
Cant really hide if the souls are giving you away, they’d point in your direction.
Anyways, I’m not really keen on making res overtly difficult to cast. This is just one option I’m okay with.
I actually don’t think she would even be used particularly to counter Zarya either after Zarya got that change to grav since it’s a lot harder to grab many enemies in one grav at a time.
Also don’t think Pacify could stop a Deadeye since the characters will die regardless after being locked on to (I could be wrong though, I don’t play a whole lot of McCree).
Otherwise great post and thanks for sharing your experiences with the character!
It is wrong actually as that lock on merely tells you when deadeye does enough damage to kill a target and deadeyes damage is increased by 250 every second so say he got it to 1 second charge and mercy hit him with pacify right before he shot it would do about 167 damage killing only targets missing 33 hp or tracers
this mercy rework will make her less competitively viable and more fun (for the mercy because really the enemy dps would just love her to be standing their perfectly still for 2 seconds)
so according to the Mercy players in the thread Mercy was thrash with mass rez but fun to play. then when the rework came she became a must pick for a year and now is in a decent spot competitively right in the middle between Ana and Moira when it comes to the current meta. However, she isn’t fun to play. With the version of mercy that has been proposed with some heavy nerfs in Resurrect as an ult, it should be fair to assume that she will be even worse than she was with her first mass rez. it depends on what Mercy players want from Mercy because it is hard to make her fun, viable, and not overpowered. These changes will likely make her a troll pick in comp. If this somehow makes her powerful on the other hand (maybe the 150 burst heal could?) the game would once again be reinforcing low skill high reward. I’m not saying that mercy players don’t have skill (look at Neptuno for example of true super skill Mercy that gets kills and still maintains above average healing numbers or Anamo who basically never dies). Nobody likes low skill high reward heroes cough baguette cough. However, nobody likes troll picks either cough torb cough bastion cough who probably need their own reworks. my point here is that making mercy balanced and fun is a difficult task especially since she is a low skill flor and ceiling hero.
then why not give her a higher cieling? you’ve stated that the ceiling is there, there’s no reason why they couldnt give her more depth. (also when res was earned the impact of a bad mercy vs a good mercy was much higher.)
