Why doesn't TF2 Medic have the 'easy' stigma that Mercy has?

I mean medic needs to watch all his team… his own back and needs to be ready to bail at any given should a situation turn bad. He also has priority healing (and the fabled “crit” healing) he loses everything on death.

Truth be told i wanted to be a mecry main (before the open beta) but when i played her… i was bored she just heals with little risk its sad tbh

Hmm, so if we were to try and translate some of what makes Medic challenging to master onto Mercy, starting with the features Medic has that Mercy does not:

  • Not sure if overheal can work in Overwatch due to health/armour/shield mechanics, but it might enrich her kit if someone can figure this out
  • Medic heals less or more depending on whether his target has taken damage recently or not, this might be another feature that is extra rewarding to Mercy players with good gamesense

As for Medics limitations compared to Mercy:

  • Requiring Rez to be earned like Ubercharge (including loss of charge on death) sounds like it has great potential, though care should be taken with how much this encourages hiding from fights - ideally Mercy should still be required to engage as much as possible, but she must now choose how she engages more carefully
  • A lot of people find her high mobility fun to use so I’d be very reluctant to nerf this aspect of her
  • Her regen on the other hand could be adjusted so she needs to think more about her escape methods - maybe it takes longer to start but is faster once it gets going?

Not to mention Medic has more survivability thanks to the smaller holster time and the fact that melee in TF2 is actually useful.

TF2 Medic is like trying to keep four plates spinning at the same time, and if any single one of those plates drop, you die and lose all your Ubercharge (ultimate in OW parlance).

Medic is probably one of the less mechanically demanding characters in TF2, but to be honest it makes up with hard tactical and risk management skills, especially as charging Uber is basically incentivised by healing damaged targets over buffing which usually means more enemy threat. And Uber is so good in TF2 that it’s always worthwhile trying to get it.

The thing that annoys me about most Mercy players is that they always have the game sense of a much lower rating player because their rating tends to be more artificially boosted.

Like if you are playing with a Platinum Mercy, then they probably have the game sense of a high silver player, and it’s really frustrating to play around.

Whereas if you have Platinum Zenyatta or Ana, their game sense tends to be what it should be due to the mechanics and awareness required for playing either character.

He doesn’t have crazy mobility or strong health regen capabilities, so he’s much more punishable. He needs to be positioned well and put himself in risky positions or risk losing his uber, which is the closest thing to an ult in TF2, that doesn’t keep all its charge rate when he dies (it usually resets to 0%). Also his weapon doesnt do a surprising amount of damage outside of crit melee weapon damage.

I was a medic main after demoman, pyro and heavy. I miss the game so much. Sadly i don’t feel like playing the game after playing for 10 years. The game was a blast to play and i don’t think they were was toxicity like OW has. Not that i know of.

Since they can be more than one medic i usually don’t pick take the original “medigun”. I love “Kritzkrieg” https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Kritzkrieg.

The whole easy thing is bullnonsense. I wish people enjoy the game instead of criticizing every single thing.

It’s because TF2 players aren’t (or weren’t, haven’t played TF2 in 2 years) braindead trashcans and actually know the importance of not only medic but the rest of the classes also.

Says the 1457 SR guy, lmao.

No matter what his damage potential truly is, he has the heart of a killer, and I love him for that.

He had Heavy’s heart too. Then he turned it into the sound of progress.

it’s also linked to the fact that in QP no one care about what you are playing, people come and go and mostly play alone while spaming medic like a genji missing 15hp.

So they won’t judge you for being a medic because they won’t notice you

First time I saw a Mercy hooked to a Brigitte, the first thing that went through my mind was "Here we go, triple medic bonesaw group, Overwatch style "

Overwatch has multiple differences that attribute to different play attitudes compared to TF2:

Higher hp pools: people tend to face tank damage while a healer is healing them. They’ll then think that they’re doing amazing when it’s the healer who is letting them do that. Then when they do die it’s because “no heals” since everyone is used to having high damage sustain.

This leads to->
People hate using cover. Tf2 has much more one shots and rng; if you don’t cover, you’re dead. Overwatch has less useful cover (walls and questionable objects that may or may not save you from that Dva bomb) while tf2 has tons of half walls.

Smaller maps: tf2 is meant for crazy enjoyment and 24 people a regular game. Everyone is much more spread out and team work is not always that required. The Medic can’t get to you so you gotta find a health pack or the Medic. In Overwatch, everything is much more cramped so people start expecting the healer to be everywhere all the time even when they’re dead and walking back from spawn.

People put more fault on the healers because players tend to play like lemmings while getting healed and don’t bother protecting the person patching them up. Shorter time to get back to the battle, and players expect the healer to have ult all the time.

Medic is extremely valuable but cant be there for everything so when you pocket, fandoms will protect you like the queen of England sometimes. They know of Medic lives long enough they get the uber so everyone, EVERYONE is vying for your attention by keeping you alive.

It’s a completely different mindset. In TF2, a good medic is one who knows who to pocket, how to cover, when to uber, where to go and other players generally keep an eye on you knowing that the Medic is a huge target and that medic is vulnerable. In Overwatch, healers have the same and similar jobs as the Medic but because the way Overwatch is designed, more is expected of them and they’re expected to do everything by themself. This leads to a disconnect between the healers and the other roles because people generally don’t even think about the healer at all, they only expect to be pocketed.

Old TF2 players aren’t that toxic. You should see some of the newer ones.

Medic doesn’t have the superior mobility of mercy, only having a slightly higher Base speed to help him, also he has the second lowest health without items.

He also loses uber upon death, tf2 is a lot less forgiving and more aim/ skill based then overwatch

Tf2 has been out ten years and more, I imagine there were tons of people who hated the way he worked amd what’s left are the people who do like him.

Also he doesn’t have the annoyance that is rez unless it’s Pve.

No res, no flight, no damage boost outside of an alternative ubercharge, and all progress towards his ubercharge (the closest thing to an ultimate in TF2) is lost upon death.
Medic is much more difficult than Mercy, and requires good decision-making and positioning.

Honestly? Because he’s not a woman, played by a lot of women players, as mercy is, has a lot to do with it.

Also the fallacy that aim is the only thing that makes a character “high skill”
