Well, we still don’t know what the Pyro is, Spy is at least bi and Scout has banged a few with his “bucket of chicken” PUA technique, but still, the “story” shorts added on what we already had and the “thirst” for lore was nowhere near as the one from the OW community, if you think about it we seem to care a little more about the story than the game itself, although to be fair, the game is a huge mess.

I think it was brought up nicely tbh. It didn’t feel forced, it wasn’t the highlight of the story or anything, it was just a keyhole look to his past, a side comment thrown in the narrative.

If a character is “destroyed” for you simply by being gay, then you shouldn’t be playing this game in the first place.

You may want to go back to writing 101 if you think that was “BTW I’m gay.”

It was two characters talking about the past. That is a common way to inform your audience of what happened. Telling would be him just saying to her “Hey remember my gay lover and how I’m gay?” But that’s not what happened. At all.

I mean, just replace him with a her and realize that it’s literally a trope used countless times; Soldier can’t stop fighting, gives up the love of his life so she can live happily with someone who can give that to her, continues fighting and misses her. It’s the entire plot of the main guy from Person of Interest. Come the frig on, it’s hardly original at this point; the only difference is that it’s two dudes, so in that sense it IS new, because that hasn’t been done to death already.

You don’t know? Probably because it is irrelevant. And it is for Overwatch too, unless they build it properly into the story.
They haven’t so far, what they have done is gone out to shock us achieving nothing else with the exercise.

All of these story elements have a big influence on Overwatch’s story overall. If you don’t know about Ana’s partner, you can’t explain Fareeha, same with Torbjorn and Brigitte. If you remove Amelie’s relationship with Gerard, you can’t explain how she became who she is. Don’t want to defend any side, but if you remove Jack occasion, it doesn’t affect story, only characters story and minus Gay 76.

Precisely, when your “most important elements” on certain mediums tend to focus on a few certain topics then it can be interpreted as such, I’ll give you an example with the Tracer situation, you remember what all the journos used as the cover for the reveal? well of course, it was Tracer and Emily’s kiss which on itself was kind of on the nose for a lot of people, NOT because “ew, icky LGBT” but because the message could have been perfectly delivered without that one angle at all, for me it was only more subtle than the Korra x Asami reveal at the end of Legend of Korra and only because the later practically came out of nowhere.

I dont see people complaining when Torb was show with his wife. Relationships(straight or otherwise) are part of real life and a source of lore for characters. In fact amorous relationships have been a driving force of Video games since Mario stormed several castles to save Peach!
