Why do people think Blizzard won’t balance lock 2-2-2?

If people think blizz can magically balance for 222 lock, they can, by the same argument, balance for any lock 321, 312, 411, etc.

Personally id rather they
A. Properly balance the game with no need for enforced locking

B. If that isnt possible Lock and balance for 3dps, 1 tank, 1 support, 1 tank/support flex.

C. If 222 is the only option, introduce 5 new supports and 5 new tanks at minimum before locking.

It definitely won’t fix the balance. It may however improve the quality of the matches (even if not for very long).

I think everyone is skeptical of blizz balancing 2-2-2 properly because of how bad they are at balancing anything. How many times have hero’s gone into must pick status for months on end? If they are going to bring out role lock I feel they should only release healers and tanks for the next year. Because locking roles with limited roles in healing and tanking will create very stale metas very fast with how few tanks and healers we have to choose from.

Totally agree.

And from a strictly viewership entertainment perspective, kinda tired of seeing dva every single match.

From the same viewership entertainment perspectice, hero ban system of some kind would be preferential to role locks. It would add a bit more suspense and surprise when it comes to that intial hero selection.

I think a ban system would be a good idea for owl because all the peolle in owl can play most hero’s in their preferred category. While on the ladder maybe some people only have a few they can comfortably play.
I honestly expect to see role lock in the future around the 40 hero mark if they still have a player base big enough worth supporting.

I think they tried a ban system with Jayne hosting multiple tournaments with Bans and Pro players, and found it didn’t work that well.

That said, I still got ideas, but “Just do a ban system”, probably won’t fix GOATs.

To be fair, balancing 2-2-2 should be FAR easier than balancing no restrictions. Less combinations means less scenarios to think about during the balance process

It’ll take time and it will mess up the balance of the game for any non-2-2-2 section and it will likely change characters people like. Blizzard also isn’t exactly good at doing balance.

2-2-2 will also probably be easier for players to solve which will make balance issues more blatant. If your balance is horribly off if people find the perfect comp but nobody finds it then you can be okay even if the balance is bad. If the balance is off by 1 or 2% and it’s blatant you’ll likely run into problems rapidly even if though balance issue is small.

Im not sure if this game was ever truly fps. Rein is here since the start and hes a melee hero, sym at start had lock-on, winstons ult was always melee only and his weapon is not exactly traditional fps sytle.

Right, but those were exceptions to the rule.

Rather than making “aiming with bullets/projectiles to get kills”, be the exception to the rule…

Akshon released a video about how OWL players have a tendency to retire earlier than other E-sports. Mental health and the stress on needing to practice on the daily for something that just wasnt fun anymore… Pretty sure if they knew about the Death of Goats that wouldnt have been said…

While I’m in favor of 2-2-2, I legitimately don’t WANT it until early 2020. There is a lot to be considered and tested internally before it can be released without breaking half the roster. It needs to be accompanied with a large 2-2-2 balance patch.

I don’t want it rushed, it’s gonna cause more problems than solutions if they rush this thing out the door.

They found it wasnt really necessary, the players dont take those tourneys nearly as seriously, and also avoid running their usual or upcoming strats to avoid scouting concerns.

Aka - none of them would have run goats in those tourneys anyway

They found that Mercy was the most banned hero, because it eliminated the main GOATs counter-comp…

And now, even if you banned Brig, they’d just run Baptiste instead.

Huh. Someone gave me a false summary.

How many ban picks did they get?

Most banned went to Mercy

She had more protects than bans though, if I am reading that correctly?

Player selected ban/protects may be insufficient, but a scheduled system may be better.

Hm? I don’t understand what people that think this are getting at. 2-2-2 goes live, all of a sudden the balance team calls it quits? Nah. They’ll do what they’ve been doing all along and keep balancing based on how things are going in the game.

Now, I would imagine some hero’s will be balanced sooner than others. As Jeff noted, Brig wouldn’t work well in 2-2-2, so I assume the developers will smartly choose to focus on her first.

The rest? Could take months or years.

I mean, as much as people complain about not having 222 in games
Looking at the pickrates accoding to overbuff (not ideal but its the best we have) for the past month,

  • despite OWL being the true strength of current patch and running primarily goats.

Comp
33.49% dps
31.90% tanks
34.63% support

QP:
42.98
23.78
33.26

Apply these %'s to 6.
Dps-tank-support
Comp 2-2-2
QP 3-1-2

Not all that far from most forum anecdotal evidense.

Tldr; people are already mostly playing 222 in comp. No need for a lock.

Biggest concern…? No, being unable to switch roles is the biggest benefit.

The number of times I’ve seen a coordinated role-switch between two players I could count on one hand.

However, if I had a nickel for every time I hit tab and realized that the main tank and the solo healer have both silently switched to DPS… well, it would be a big pile of nickels. A ridiculously big pile if you count every time any tank or healer has silently switched to DPS.

I could buy a pizza with all those nickles. Probably several pizzas. Mmmm. Pizza. And cheesy garlic bread too.
