Why do people keep saying The game being more MOBA is bad

yeah you said this game is an FPS with RPG elements, I just ingored the RPG elements since it doesn’t matter if it’s MOBA or RPG since the point is it’s not from a traditional FPS

It’s not 70/30 No matter how many times you say it, for every FPS focused character like Cassidy, And widow i can name a more MOBA esc character like Winston and Mercy. No one considers the maps or objective to be the main part if the game, no one hops on Overwatch and says, I feel like playing Payload or, I feel like playing Kings Row, it’s the Heroes, The objective is just that… an objective, every game has them so it’s irrelevant to bring it up.

And Regardless, MOBA like elements should be embraced more not less as they can allow for More creative designs and can add color to more simple FPS characters that would be otherwise bland

Die hard fps lovers really don’t like MOBA mechanics, and don’t want them in any game they play.

Overwatch was designed to be a MOBA/FPS hyrbid game, but rather than balance the game around that vision, FPS players, especially streamers that depend on views for profit, demanded the game be more fast and action packed like an FPS and wanted slower, more technical moba elements abandoned or weakened, as despite making the game more fun to play for many, it made it less fun to WATCH, which impacted streamer profits.

Then came OWL, and Blizzard wanted the game to be more fun to watch themselves since now they could profit off of it too, so unfortunately Overwatch began it’s downward spiral from there.

I do miss when this game was more fun to play and less fun to watch. I feel it was much more balanced back then. (I’m referring, of course, to the state of Overwatch back around Christmas of 2016).

Guess you never played HoTS then. That moba is all about having different objective, they even have payload, 2cp. Its really fun, i wouldnt say fps objectives are better but i also wouldnt say mobas objectives are better. They are to different of games to accuratly compare them

Oh I did, and they killed it
Yeah most MOBAS are not like that. Maps are exactly the same, nothing to do with OW maps.

Deeply viscerally disagree.

It feels awful to hide behind walls like you’re playing COD or valorant in a game with a rich variety of play styles.

People who aren’t good enough for those games coke to Overwatch and try to ruin the experience for everyone else by forcing changes the game does not need or want.

The game tried to appeal to too many people tbh. I dont think its a moba at all but we have to hear from people like you who want it to be more of a true moba

I like fps games, i want ow to be an fps and imo it is that now

Well if you wanna see the MOBA in Overwatch Just play someone Like Rein or Mercy, and you’ll find that you aren’t playing overwatch like a shooter anymore but isntead as a MOBA as you have to keeo track of enemy CDs and ults as well as where you are at any given time, not to say that DMG players don’t it’s just that it’s secondary to shooting the baddies

How are they MOBA characters exactly? Winston’s got a flamethrower-esque type weapon with mobility and a shield, not really unheard of in FPS game, and Mercy is literally flying Medic TF2.

Well yeah even in FPS games they have unconventional aspects, look at things like The Riot Shield or how many gadgets that don’t require to do any shooting, I said MOBA esc since yeah Winston may have a Flame thrower he also has a Big ol bubble shield and Leap as well as An ultamite that Gives him a massive Buff

The game lacks any core MOBA elements. I don’t know why people think it has them unless people think that having characters with unique skills is somehow a MOBA element (spoiler it predates the entire genre).

Its alot closer to an FPS than a MOBA has been since release.

Its 1st person, pretty much every character shoots except a few like Mercy and even she has a secondary that lets her shoot.

Its an FPS this game is a hybrid game if you don’t like FPS maybe you should play league of legends.

Overwatch is a merge of two communities in gaming.

The hardcore fps cod, battlefront, csgo crowd.

And

The Hardcore rpg and moba crowd.

These two groups clash often on how character designs and the flow of the game goes.

Because MOBA’s mean using strategy and thinking and complaining about this and that hero being too much is easier.

Except that you have characters like Rein and Moira or Brig, who you you can plop down into a league of legends or Smite game and they wouldn’t stick out much

Maybe but moira and brig arent release characters.

So rein was like the only character like that since release so the game has always been more fps based

It’s unbelievable how those discussions still pop here after so many years. Overwatch was much more relatable to something like Team Fortress then anything “MOBA Related”. It’s much more relatable to 90s shooters then ANY MOBA I know.

In fact, you don’t call any “mechanic” that MOBAs stoled from other genres as “MOBA” mechanics.

Damn zoomers who don’t know anything else.

tbh I see way more people complaining about hitscan meta and Overwatch being too fps centric

I barely see people complain about Overwatch being too MOBA. Sure you’re not fighting ghosts here?

Because by nature of its medium, OW is a first person shooter. It, undebateably, is a shooter in first person.

It is not a MOBA, there are no lanes, no minions, no upgrade shops, no towers, whatever.

OW borrowing certain elements of inspiration from MOBAs is fine, but lifting anything from one medium and expecting it to work in another won’t always make it better. Indeed, it can degrade the overall experience. Overwatch stopped being one of the big competitors in the mainstream shooter market when Brig happened, and it did not suddenly become a mainstream MOBA. This is because making OW more MOBA just makes it a worse shooter, not a better MOBA. As OW isn’t a MOBA.

Projectile heroes are still FPS.

Its just hitscan has always been so broken in comparison to projectile.

Like in OW1 I can barely see any reason why you would’ve picked Cas over almost any other hero he won 1v1s with pretty much every character at every range he could 1v1 some tanks.

To get the same value as Cas as say like Torbjorn you had to put in alot more effort just to get less reward

OMG people its simple. We are saying that the heroes are like a moba not the game as a whole.

Heroes in mobas have 2-4 abilities and a ultimate, Overwatch heroes have 2-4 abilites and a ultimate. Mobs you need to watch for cooldowns and keep track of ults, same as in overwatch.

We are not saying that overwatch is a moba, just that the heros and how the abilites work are similar to a moba. Its more FPS then moba when it comes to gameplay and design, but the abilites are closer to a moba then a fps.
