Why do people constantly complain about this game?

The ones that truly stopped caring have already left.

You may note that whenever someone says the game is dying, it’s usually followed by a sudden change in the matchmaking, as if the MMR suddenly lost track of the players and takes a couple of weeks for things to settle down, if at all.

That’s a large chunk of the playerbase leaving.

What you see in the forums has no influence on what the players actually do ingame, but it represents what’s already happening ingame.

“Let’s stop tanking!” followed by a couple of weeks of bad tanks has nothing to do with someone in the forum telling tank users to go on strike. The former tank mains ingame likely had never even been in the forums. They decided on their own that it’s no longer worth tanking and stopped, the complaints in the forums are just a reflection of what the people actually in the game are thinking.

The people still in the forums complaining are atleast hoping that the game can still change for the better. The ones that stopped complaining are people that have already given up and likely left the game.

forums are only full of complaints because blizz refuse to actually moderate and move low effort complaint spam to a seperate section.

that is why even the devs prefer reddit, because there is actual moderation.

the only moderation on here is saying something the complaint mob disagrees with so you get false flagged. hence there is no real diversity of opinions and just a toxic echo chamber.

If not to complain people wouldn’t come here. :woman_shrugging:

I think most of it is due to changing metas and heros esp heros, the moment they broke mercy down to garbage instead of balancing her out, the distrust on the devs started, its not even about some heros being meta, but constantly a set of heros in every role being pushed into garbage tier, see dva was meta a long time, but when they nerfed her instead of balance she is thrown in to being the worst tank, how tough would it be to fix her critbox, a bit more armor.
Nope dva needs time in recycle bin now.

This is the attitude see mei brig, they were meta now trash why can’t they be balanced out so atleast they are not hot garbage.

One half of the community will rejoice when ever a meta hero is made garbage cause they think their mains deserve it for some sort of crime they committed.

This is what bliz devs have been doing making meta heros by overbuffing them then tearing them down to shreds.

So there will be that frustration towards devs, yes balancing is a hard game no one expects perfect balance, but people don’t want this meta to trash balance debacle.

Honestly I’ve just stopped caring about OW. It used to be my favorite game but tanks are unplayable so I have no reason to stay

Some people just don’t know how to not complain.

OW is a fun game but it has some serious flaws in how it’s balanced and it’s overall design philosophy. I say the biggest flaw with Overwatch is that it forces player behavior through it’s game design rather than being built around it. Furthermore, I think overwatch has too conflicting mechanics with many lacking any sort of depth in how they function.

I rarely play the game anymore because the core gameplay just isn’t that appealing to me anymore. No real nuance at all. Just flashy ultimates and abilities the devs added because they thought they were cool.

The game has gone long periods without meaningful content as most of the events are recycled. The developers will often go radio silent and are slow to acknowledge issues. The devs appear to favor the feedback of streamers and owl pros over the feedback of people who actually made the game the hit it was.

overbuffing and over nerfing of heroes. Asking for feedback on “proposed” changes on the ptr/experimental card but then push out said changes without any meaningful iteration or adjustment.

Blizzard provides plenty of incentives for people to not only hate on the game but the company as well.

cause it sucks but it could be absolutely amazing and there isnt any other game like it so people get upset cause they love the game.

They have every reason to crap on this game. It gets worse every patch. There’s no new content and problems that have existed in this game from launch have not been fixed. This game is in a downward trajectory and it’s just like any other online game that’s been out for too long.

Because the game has fallen from what it once was.

It was a 100% game of the year award winner and now it’s something everyone laughs at when you tell them you play it.

With the addition of broken balance changes, the increase of attention to the OWL, and just of bunch of other dumb greedy crap like loot boxes, this is just a game people hop on once in a while when they have literally nothing better to do in their day.

I enjoy the game, can’t stand most of the community.

I honestly dont know. I just roll my eyes at people who say the game was “better” during season 6-7. I love overwatch. I have my qualms with it, but it really has provided me a lot of quality experiences for the 39.99 I spent on it 3 years ago.

I love the devs,
I love the heroes, I love the world they’ve built the audio design the love they put into it… even some of the community. It’s the only game on my xbox I’ve never uninstalled.

Mmm, I have a few theories (and it can be a combination of any of them, really)

1: General burnout. Even a supposedly good game can get tiring if you play it too much. And with OW’s rather infrequent addition of any new content especially in the eventual lead-in to OW2 (the concerns over that are a different matter entirely), that burnout can happen more frequently than ever, especially since a lot of people are stuck inside too.

2: Tanks/Supports player venting frustrations. This is a feeling I know extremely well. It feels like the OW team is wanting to suddenly change the game’s identity from a fun MOBA-style shooter with cool abilities to a fast and far too frantic affair along the lines of COD or Battlefield, where the decreased TTK makes for an easier skill floor overall. This is very likely in an attempt to make the Esport they pushed way too hard for actually be enjoyable to watch. But that speed and level of damage goes against essentially the entire playstyle of any tank or support, who thrive in a setting where one can actually play somewhat tactically instead of just hitting Q at the right time.

3: People who already decided to hate OW before it was out and rarely play it deciding to vent. This is a common person on a lot of online shooters who immediately declares the death of X game for a change or addition that requires them to think differently.

4: People who can see the writing on the wall and are seeing worrying signs regarding OW2 and it’s development and how similar it is to another game that eventually crashed and burned because of development hell and a confused dev team that had no real idea of what they were doing, also people who saw that the Dev team for OW is generally bad at balancing since OW itself came as the outcome of a mishmash of ideas.

Personally, I don’t find the game enjoyable anymore. The low TTK, the very clear hand they’re giving to DPS players (which, not counting Lucio, you are one of) at the cost of the Tanks and Supports, an endless series of questionable balance changes, a dev team that refuses to actively communicate with anyone about their plans likely because they lack one, etc. But I still come on here since a lot of my friends still play it and I like to know what’s going on.

At a point, I would have agreed with you. Anymore, I don’t. Overwatch is not fun anymore. It’s a drag. It’s been a drag for a while but it had redeeming qualities that kept bringing me back, and now at lot of those redeeming qualities are gone. It’s tedious now.

But that’s also why I’m here on the forums, because I believe Overwatch can be a really excellent and fun game because it has been at various points in its history. Just… not right now. Hope for the future though yeah?

For the record, I really don’t play the game much anymore. Maybe a couple games each week tops. Paladins is much more fun, and for actual FPS games, I’ve been having a lot of fun on Titanfall 2 and BLOPS4. It just sucks to see Blizzard butcher what should be a comfortably top-notch game because… reasons (and, I do believe that the community knows these reasons and they do get talked about, but sometimes it’s not popular to say)

I want the game to be the best it can be. The devs made a crazy good foundation for OW, but oh my god they did an awful job adding onto it.

Because there’s nothing out there like Overwatch.

Debatable. What you consider the most fun, other people might not. Personally, I think Overwatch is mediocre and overrated.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe some of these people criticize the game like they do because they want it to get better and not because they just hate it. I know I personally see the potential, despite the mediocrity of the current game.

I’d reaaaally agrue with it being “fun”. I haven’t played this game for just a week, and my nervous system already felt better. As I tried playing a game or two, I closed the game with a strong anger and anxiety feeling. Which isn’t exactly what you’d feel if a game is fun to you. If anything, it’s addictive. But that’s it.
