I donât think any amount of badgering from forum posters is going to make a bit of difference in what the dev team decides to do to a character.
Honestly, I think itâs all driven by the pro scene at this point. If youâre not a popular streamer, or a pro competitive gamer, youâre not going to influence balance changes on a character.
Because they can more clearly get their points across, they said talking in the fourms information was being read wrong, caused confusion and often was just backlash.
I think this is an unfair criticism. The devs have been on the ball when it comes to complaints for the past while. Brigitte/Mercy nerfs, buffing underused characters, saying theyâll try to tackle the CC complaints. They have definitely been on an ideological swing for some time now.
The issue really is that they canât do everything at once. They tried to solve the problem of Torb/Sym one tricks getting reported in comp by doing reworks, Torb seems like heâs in a much better place, Sym could probably still use work. The issue is though strong focuses come at the expense of forsaking other characters.
In the period of time Torb/Sym were being reworked people complained about Soldier/Mccree/Reaper being lackluster. Some people have to wait to be in the spotlight again and even beloved characters like Ana can go for long periods of being nonviable. Weâve already seen with the near year dominance and focus on Mercy that the love has to be spread out a bit.
Okay. I know how you feel though as when things are important to you then it can seem like the devs literally do not care if theyâre not addressing your specific issue.
We all have our time in the barrel and the spotlight when it comes to fixing things. Doomfist got the spotlight for a while and because he got too much shine now heâs about to be placed in the barrel. People who one trick or only play a few characters(Mercy,Torb,Sym,etc) have a much greater chance at being alienated and frustrated by the devâs current focus.
As for CD: Let just disagree, Things could have been handle differently. This is all too unfriendly nerfs and buffs lately. Heavily favored it seems in a certain direction every year. Last year Dive, this year GoatsâŚNext year I guess we are back to 3* tank or a sniper meta
The developers comments on balance might be limited because they probably donât have backing for their decisions/backing that the user base would actually like.
Blizzard is sitting on a mountain of data.
Youâll notice however, that they virtually never bring it out.
If I was doing balance based changes Iâd be bringing out stats nearly every single time and even for some of the times that the decisions are feel based. Stats are frequently easier to take than feels like statements as players disagree about how things feel.
For example, letâs say they started getting feedback about Mercy hiding with increasing frequency. If they started monitoring Mercyâs inactivity periods and they found that 70% of Mercyâs spent at least 15s per match doing nothing when they had ult while a fight was going on and then told people that. It would have been far more persuasive than what they put out.
Using stats can also make people be nicer to you when you inevitably mess up when trying to fix things. Everybody makes mistakes from time to time but, if you look like you are making them all of the time people will want you gone instead of getting over it.
Plus youâve got the old âBetter to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.â
