Why do Hanzo players use sonic arrows for kills?

So when I play a match I randomly see a hanzo just switching to a sonic arrow for a kill no matter if the rest of the team is there (assuming so he can shoot it near the rest of the enemy team) or only one enemy does sonic arrow have extra damage or something I don’t know about or is this just random instinct?

If one has sonic arrow out and someone wanders into your sightline then you might as well just fire the sonic arrow at them

If you hit an enemy hero with it it follows them.

Sonic arrow persists after its use so if you use it on a shield or barrier and the barrier falls or breaks the arrow falls too and is still active so it can get them either hits or headshots if they’re lucky

Sonic Arrow on a support = Tracking support for a kill.

Sonic Arrow on a sheild = Drops for a full powered head shot when shield is lowered.

Sonic Arrow on a Flanker = Easy prefire headshot.

It’s not about getting kills with sonic, it’s about tracking someone.

Yes, well, and sometimes people just walking in path of your sonic arrow

That’s true, but you can right click while in full draw to reset the arrow without any issues if you don’t want to waste it

Your mistake is in thinking Hanzo players are trying to get kills. In reality, they just like firing arrows down halls, and for some reason people keep putting their heads in the way. At least that’s how it looks on the death replay.

Typically I’m firing Sonic Arrow into an enemy so they can give me information on where the rest of their team is, like shooting a Reinhardt barrier or tagging a Genji, Doomfist, etc. It is possible that the character they are trying to tag is already at half health by the time they’re shot.

Shoot Sonic Arrow at shield
Arrow sticks in shield
Enemy soldier runs through shield
Arrow in shield headshots soldier

I constantly does the same amount of damage, regardless of distance, power, or anything.

It’s good for hitting a lot of damage on any target, close or far.

I do it for BM purposes sometimes cuz it’s funny. Shooting someone, like a tank, with it is actually useful cuz it makes it a moving beacon if they got behind cover. Also, if a barrier is getting weak I’ll also shoot one above Rein’s head. When the shield busts the arrow will still be there at will hold it’s damage. At least this used to be a thing, not sure if it still is but I know the arrow still exists after the shield breaks

Why not use it for kills? It is an arrow after all.

DEATH BY SAAANIC

fffffaaaaaassst

if u hit the target, w sonic, i dont think they or there team can see it.
Like if u hit a wall, u see the blue wave …
if u hit a target , it wont make the blue wave on there screen.

What a random thread to dig up.

Or just press the Sonic Arrow button again to switch back to a normal arrow without having to reset your charge. Lmao

Exactly…

No Hanzo would actively go for this tbh.

Sonic Arrow is fired for the wallhack it provides. The kills that I seem to get from it are 100% accidental.

The real answer:

I’m pretty sure Sonic Arrow has a larger hitbox than regular arrows. It’s easier to headshot with
