Why Current Mercy is Unfun

I’m going to make this thread for two audiences
First is Blizzard
Second is every person who’s constantly asking the question “oh how is she less fun her kit is the same except ult?”

Alright so there are two things that were appealing about the original design of Mercy
Impactful Feeling
Fair Vulnerability

Let’s deal with impactful feeling. Does this need any explanation? Valk esecpailly right now does not feel as impactful on the fight as Rez did, heck even the first Valk despite being overpowered never felt like it powered up the fight the same way a 5 man rez could.
This really just boils down to one problem, the power budget for Valkyrie is being spent on duration.

Think about it, 60 HPS can’t stop any DPS ult or even focus fire and because of which it feels very underwhelming for an ult. and that’s because is we made it an actually impactful amount of healing like say 140 HPS (Moira’s ult by the way) it would be inherintly overpowered because that’s a lot of healing for 15 seconds, yet on 8 it’s perfectly reasonable.
On the flip side Rez as it is now, well not only is it pretty much impossible to pull off during a fight (leaving it at best a convienience ability that feels and dosen’t have any impact at all) but if you do somehow manage to get one off often times someone died while you’re rezzing making it a double edged sword.

So the TL;DR of this section is that current rez and Valkyrie are worse in everyway to rez when it comes to player experience

And now for the second part
Fair Vulnerability.
The charm of playing Mercy to the people who enjoyed her also stemmed from the fact that this is a hero who can’t directly defend herself and has to rely on mobility, if you get caught out of position or away from the team you were toast, especially with a low projectile speed making her caduceus blaster one of the worst to try and fight the mobile flankers with.
And this is still the same… until you activate either of the new features of the Rework
Valkyrie makes you fly out of reach and guardian angel is so fast that even if someone managed to get their sights on you and become a problem you just zip away, it’s too dang easy and remember this is an ult that lasts for entire fights at a time.
Both the need to be extremely aware so as to not get shot in the back and the need for even healing prioritization is gone! It’s a brainless ultimate.
On the flip side Rezzurect is cheap and if you ever get one off it’s not by your skill it’s either a convenience rez after the fight, someone else’s skill got you that ability’s success or the enemy were potatos for 1.7 seconds and LET you get it off.
It feels unfair how easy it is to kill you, it’s one thing to be vulnerable and easy to kill and another to be a free kill unless someone else is there babysitting you.
To put it another way, rez is a test of literally everyone elses skill in the match except Mercy.

So there, this is why the current build and Valk Mercy as a whole really is an unfun mess and should be either reverted or reworked again as soon as possible.
