Rein was never part of double shield. It’s Sigma and Orisa combined.
Plus this experimental didn’t even touch his Barrier.
Lower Ranks are identified by having less coordinated pushes and much longer “poke” phases.
Guess what Orisa and Sigma would be really good at, with weaker close range defences, but beefier barriers.

Lower ranks have Rein Zarya as the most picked tanks by far so that doesn’t match up with what you said.
Nerfing the double shield duo really won’t change the tank variety issue for lower ranks.
Rein Zarya will still just walk through the barriers. Just like they already do in low ranks.
I think you’re overestimating how coordinated Rein/Zarya pushes are for Platinum and below.

However, if even with that lack of coordination Rein/Zarya are by far the most picked for low ranks I just can’t see how nerfing Sigma would really help with that.
Rein Zarya has a very low skill floor (and high ceiling) and that level of reliability will be difficult to overcome in low ranks.
Especially with tanks that require aiming and for their entire team to focus on the Rein Zarya steamrolling towards them. After all since you’ve just nerfed their close range, it would be over as soon as the Rein reaches them.
Your change risks making the low rank diversity worse.
Because Rein works nothing like Orisa or Sigma.
Pretty sure that was the same patch, yea. It was around the same time even if it wasn’t the same exact patch

Double shield does not work with Rein because he cannot attack while holding up his shield unlike Orisa or Sigma. The main goals of a double shield comp is to offer good protection and damage.
