Why am I watching streamers play OW2?

The game is early access on Oct4 and I paid for beta. Why can’t I play OW2 right now?
Is it in beta or do they just get some kind of discriminatory whitelisting?

The beta was in July. It ended it July.

Streamers are being granted access so they can show off the game to us.

Their reward for marketing the game as well as could be expected.

They were given early access for a day or two to play the game again and try out the new hero so make some launch content. They aren’t playing it currently. They have to wait like everyone else for the launch.

The whole thing is bad.

  • Heroes locked behind a BP
  • Outrageous pricing for skins
  • Horrible grind time (80+ games for ~26 teirs)
  • No workshop (for now)
  • FTUE (makes it hard to play with friends new to the game)
  • SMS verification

But these lobbies aren’t just filled with streamers?

Edit: I assume the preview event ended. lately it’s back to ow1 just called ow2 on ttv.
Still, based on livestreams – a lot of burner accounts showing up like SMS isn’t a gate.

I guess they all have multiple phones?

The FTUE does not make it hard to play with new players. If you’re grouped with a new player, they will have access to everything you do except for competitive.

They will not have access to new heroes, and it is not confirmed yet, but new players may not be able to join custom games on their own, which would be pretty lame.
