By the way I think it’s settled, i’ll make more anime related posts in the future (because i’m a weeb) so people don’t always see buff/nerf/delete/lgbt/mercy topics, i’ll try to keep it varied with some non anime related posts (try is the word) i think the forum needs more positive laid back topics so people aren’t overdosing on salt and toxicity, I’ve even been seeing more jam lately so that definitely says something about the current state of things.

Why does it suck? I’m curious as to why so many state this while not giving a reason to why it’s bad?
Anime to me is basically like cartoons, except usually with lower quality animation and a strong dose of discomforting misogyny.
It’s not all the same, of course. I’ve enjoyed a couple of them. But the main factors that define something as “anime” instead of “cartoon” are not what I would consider positive traits.
I wonder what anime they’ve watched to come across that opinion, if it’s all the crap in between the good stuff then i can say American media sucks because of never ending low quality cop shows and reality shows, or the fact that they milk any action movie to death.

Once a upon a time America cared about making quality animation with stuff like the DC Animated Universe, The Last Airbender, old Simpsons, and Teen Titans. Now we have utter garbage like Steven Universe. I feel like the biggest issue here is that we as a society see cartoons and animation as something for kids.

I do, and as many titles as I’ve watched and fallen in love with over the years, my all-time favorite anime is “Blue Submarine No.6”!
Watched it when it first aired on “Toonami” (glorious memories~<3), I didn’t like it at first and was tempted to just leave it at the first episode, but I dwelled on it. Something about it just…seemed familiar.
As time stretched onward, I realized why it was familiar to me: It was an anime version of my favorite book, “The Island of Dr. Moreau”!
Once I came to that conclusion, I watched it all the way to it’s end and enjoyed every minute of it. I looked past the CGI/animation blend and savored it for what it was, and I haven’t looked back since. Even made a fan fic about it, though I never finished it 
Now that I think about it, I think D.Va would make a fitting Mutio with Meka as her umigumo(?).

And here comes the Misogyny argument because every country has to apparently adhere to modern Western standards plus the bad animation argument only applies if you seen something made by A1 studious watch something like Monogatari, One Punch Man, and My Hero Acadamia and you’ll see what great animation looks like.

And on one side female characters have actual development in anime compared to western shows where all they can say is “i’m a brick, but i’m also a woman” i can’t name a single notable aspect of character development in western media.
Fan service doesn’t equal misogyny and most good anime don’t even have fan service, also there is equality.

I don’t mind fan service really there are times where it is executed poorly but for the most part it’s done pretty well or just right. If you’re watching a Harem it’s going to have a ton of fan service, harems are mostly bad but they’re a guilty pleasure of mine.
