I think they revealed a hamster as the next hero to make fun of the people speculating non-stop over the new hero, asking Devs about possible heroes etc.
I think they took the idea from suggestions and specualtions they saw on reddit/forums.
Also, the way the “new hero” was revealed was too anti-climactic to actually take it serious.
Edit: After thinking a bit more about this. The said “The new champion is revealed” not hero. maybe he won junkerqueens meka battle, but this does not mean he will be the new HERO (not champion).

They wouldn’t take the time to animate/model a character if they weren’t going to do something more with it. The amount of time it takes to make all of the assets wouldn’t be a worthy investment for a 1 off joke. If they wanted a joke they’d just slap Jeff in front of a fire again.

It seems that way unless you did something like that yourself. Even if you wing it, that’s weeks of work. I doubt they’d pay someone for weeks to make a twitter joke.
I want to believe it but seems like a lot of work for a simple prank.
Also it seems like a highlight into too.

You honestly think paid artists would take weeks to model that little hamster’s face and animated all that as a joke? 3D modeling and animation isn’t an easy job, it most certainly isn’t a joke, my dude.
