Where's the hype at?

I think this is going to be their biggest issue. When you can’t even keep your existing base happy then you can’t expect new players to care either.

OW2 feels like a game that is designed to appeal to everyone but doesn’t actually appeal to anyone.

It’s not really that release, it’s early access. I expect a full marketing blitz on the “actual” release.

yep, that seems like thats everyone elses copium hitting in thinking that “its just early access. the reason why the game sucks and theres no hype is because its early access. the game is technically in an “open beta” and its not really the new game until december 2023.”

No it’s worse than this. You can expect new players to care while yeeting your existing players. The issue is from the outside looking in, it looks like the same game and if you didn’t care before you won’t care now.
Then those who actually play the game realize it’s basically an entirely new game that has very little resemblance to the original that they actually enjoy.

So they’ve managed to overhaul it to the point of it being a different game while simultaneously making it look like the exact same game followed by making terrible monetisation decisions.

I’m not really talking about “hype”. I’m talking about the advertising blitz that normally accompanies big game releases. Traditional tie ins on physical products, subway ads, YouTube and twitch ads. That stuff. They’re doing some token “influencer” things but that’s hardly a replacement for a full marketing push.

I’ve not played the game. I have no opinions about the quality of it.

games with a lot of hype have turned out terrible

and games that were virtually unknown turned out good.

hype means nothing in this day and age and likely makes the broken promises issue worse in many AAA games.

This isn’t a small indie game. It’s a sequel to 2016’s GOTY.

The company has changed their marketing approach. They are not planning on making commercials

Ftp will get them a bunch of free marketing when it shows up in the free section on consoles

i know overwatch isnt unknown but i was just giving the extremes.

there have been games that are well known that turned out well and unknown ones that were rightfully forgotten.

my point about hype not meaning anything still stands

When’s the official release? Around that time you’ll see the traditional advertising blitz. Taco Bell cups with tracer on them or whatever like they used to have. Activision has a huge marketing budget and they’re not just gonna let it languish.

This could be a huge sign as to what to expect. First it was Kaplan who left now Goodman, if that doesn’t say something about the game I don’t know what does.

Im hyped. I love the monetization. I like that we can earn premium currency. I love the battle pass. I love cross progression. I love the maps. I love the new heroes. I dont like the brig nerf that expects her to melee an enemy every 4 seconds to do something lucio does for free. I dont like zen discord has no cd. I dont like 5v5. I hate hate hate push. i hate ppl crying over having to earn a single hero every 4 and 1/2 months because they have a problem financially supporting a game they play and expect others to pay for the game for them while they get everything free and instant.

Either way im hyped. Ill give this game a fair shot. Im not going to assume things about the game i havent experienced are bad. Not everyone is going to like everything. For example i hate that they ruined brig with a 50th nerf so i wont ever play that hero (my favorite hero) again. She is ruined. Its done. I hate push so if i get a push map in competitive you better believe im just going on flanks every game not giving a damn about my team. Its a team death match with a robot in the middle so it will be treated as such.
