Where is your backbone?

I think this model is destined to go at some point. It isn’t gambling, but it is absolutely predatory and it uses much of the same psychology to drive it.

People are really kicking up a stink now because there’s actual gameplay locked behind it. Most people before that were either fine with the whole scheme or gave it a pass because it was only cosmetics.

As for the likelihood of stopping it with the law, all I can say is that I’m not an expert in the field.

There is a lot of entitlement among gamers of today. That’s the only thing I can see that makes gamers of today different than gamers of the past.

LOL babe several forum people =/= the majority of the playerbase, the Devs THEMSELVES said the forums are usually more negative than any other feedback because people come here solely to complain. AndyB outright said when they made an announcement a while back that they expected forum disapproval and did it anyways, LOL.

Imagine thinking forum likes = being right

:joy:

And that’s okay, times change :man_shrugging: nothing wrong with that.

How is it not? You’re literally hoping to get 1 out of how many thousand cosmetics? That’s a gamble.

Uhm, no, people were crying even before they found out kiriko would be in it, just search up any battle pass related thread from before the announcement.

Literally. People here like to project their opinions and ideas and act like the general playerbase agrees with them lmao.

Gross, don’t do that. It’s repulsive.

Imagine looking at every YouTube comment, reddit post, Facebook post, etc… and seeing that those places show the same thing.:rofl:

You just keep taking those L’s though.

I’m not taking any L’s, the game I love is getting an update I love in 2 weeks  you’re the one who’s upset, not me, lol

I mean… would you want an alternative version of something you love, or no version of it at all? Cause as much as you say the power is on our hands, it’s just as much in the company since they could decide at any moment to say “not worth it” and shut it all down.

I dunno about you, but I think more people would prefer some version of it than no version at all.

Just going to deny that you’ve come at me several times and taken an L each time? Lololol… okay. Whatever helps you sleep at night.:rofl:

Taken an L on WHAT? :sob: :joy: These forums don’t mean anything :sob: This is my source of entertainment

I be sleeping good lately especially with OW2 launching in less than 2 weeks!

Me too! Can’t wait. I’m upset about the hero lock, not about the game releasing. I am going to enjoy it before it dies a horrible death.:grin:

I’ve got my wires crossed somewhere. Are you arguing that it (battlepasses) is or isn’t gambling? I’m saying it isn’t, but it uses a lot of the same psychology to drive it.

I’m talking about the wider community. Yes, there’s always been people who hate battlepasses, but outside of the people who are concerned about the psychology behind them (which is a relatively small, but absolutely correct population), most people saw OW’s cosmetics-only implementation as fairly benign.

Been saying this for years and all your points are correct, we have been saying this as far back as I have had internet…

I also said that the more corporations get involved with gaming, the more they take out of the players, the more they will take out of gaming and then will sell after its become a lifeless husk…

We see this with EA, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard all selling after they stopped getting away with… well yeah, haha.

sorry my bad, i thought you were referring to lootboxes.

Yes sorry i agree with this, my bad.

My mindset is this its the LoL mindset that I have. No i’m not going to compare LoL to OW so I don’t get the “BUT ITS NOT A CORE MECHANIC” speech. Why I brought up LoL up is because it has the most numerous characters out of any game I can think of outside of say Dota 2. While both of said games are moba’s OW is a Moba like shooter you have your roles etc.

The reason I brought up LoL is due to the amount of characters it has. The reason i’m okay with the BP hero lock thing and sure it can seen as selfish. But I know what i’m getting when I pay 10$ I’m getting that character its not a random chance. Eventually there will be so many characters may not as much as LoL but still enough to where just because “X” character is “Meta” Another character can still be played and preform well and not result in a “GG Go next we don’t have x hero”.

Its one of the reason pro players and high ranking players are so boring to watch in any game besides maybe fighting games. Its always the same roster on each team there is no variety its the same old bashing heads against one another hoping this team beats this team in this teamfight etc.

As well as the more funding the game gets the more content that can be put out for it. Sure blizzard activision is omega rich company. But money talks and its the only language corps speak. In my head its not that big of a thing for me to dish out 10$ every 18 weeks. Once they start alternating hero releases. Its the least I could give so that I and others can keep getting more content. If there happens to be skins in the store I want I will buy them as well.

Call me a shill or have a lack of backbone w/e idc. Its my thought process and if you don’t agree with it that’s fine you are allowed to have a different thought process to me.

Locking content behind progression is an industry standard for ftp live service games. League and riot games in general, as THE prominent example that blizzard has been taking notes from.

Wait, we had backbones? News to me.

since videogames were a thing. gamers never had a backbone. gaming related boycotts are notoriously the worst boycotts ever. let’s not romanticize a fictional past. gamers have historically proven themselves to have the self control of a drug addict, if that.

Key word “were”. Now gamers are also very disconnected and antisocial. Most features, that formed communities, are gone from games.

So the protesting failed because the people who weren’t part of the protesting (the one’s you call complacent) out weighed those who were? Sorry, I just like pointing out the fact that protesting and boycotting is completely over rated. It works wonders for collecting hearts on social media, though.

I’m not sure how far back we need to go to self proclaim ourselves OG gamers, but I’ve certainly been around the block a time or two.
