What's a good Frame rate?

The only way you’re going to notice more than that is if you’re some super korean gaming god

it doesn’t matter how many frames you are getting unless you have a monitor that can keep up. if you have a 60hz monitor (which 90% do) then you are only going to max out at 60 fps, regardless of what the fps counter tells you in game.

but if you have a monitor with high refresh rates, then every increase in frames matter. reasonably though, you don’t need to go past 240hz or even 165hz

Idk I haven’t experienced more than 30 :joy:

60 is the minimum to have a decent experience, and people seems to agree that 144hz makes a big difference while the transition to 240 is not as noticeable.

Either way, the more you can get - the better. Even if your display is not capable of displaying all, you get the benefit of the game being more responsive to your inputs.

There is no one answer, it depends on you and your vison. With that said 150 is a good ball park number to go by. 200+ is still noticeable by some people, but you should consider diminished returns vs the price of hardware.

Also consider if you play casually or are gunning for top 500. if you are playing in platinum or less, 60-150 is fine.

Refresh rate and fps are not the same thing. You can get less input lag and smoother play over 60 fps on a 60 hz monitor.

It can also start the next frame before the previous one is finished, which is a good thing. this frame merging does allow 60 hz to go over 60 fps with diminished returns.

It’s not about what you see. Higher frame rates improve responsiveness in games. The higher you go the less noticable it is but in OW it makes alot more of a difference than other games.
This being said, aslong as you can maintain a solid 60fps no matter what you are going to be fine. 120 is where I like to hit just to improve the responsiveness of the game, especially in twitch shooters. Anything above that is just so I know I will stay above 120.

FPS needs to match your monitor’s Refresh rate, otherwise it doesn’t really matter.

144hz seams to be not bad. But I’d rather go above 200hz. It depends upon the person’s eyes and how much assistance they need with reaction timing. It also boils down to internet latency. Being #1. Run wired. it should go well! :+1:

It’s sometimes a controversial topic, but…
My points and observations re: high framerate (HFR), that is, 120+ fps.

  • HFR simply feels way better to play on
  • Aiming and tracking are easier, more responsive, less laggy with HFR
  • Less likely to experience motion sickness/eyestrain with HFR
  • If your aim is bad, HFR won’t make it good, but if your aim is at least decent, HFR will make it slightly better and more consistent
  • HFR provides a moderate advantage against players without it, not a guarantee you’ll beat them every time, but given an opponent of equal skill playing on a 60 fps monitor you should win more often than not
  • (most significant IMO) - HFR makes it far easier to keep track of what’s going on in a hectic fight, which makes it especially great for Overwatch

On that last point, I still recall the first time I played Overwatch at 120+ fps after upgrading to a new monitor. It felt almost like I was playing the game with a subtle Matrix “bullet time” effect on constantly, as if my enemies had been slowed down slightly, to my benefit. More time to react, easier to keep track of where enemies and allies are on the battlefield, easier to dodge incoming projectiles, more time to make micro-corrections to aim and tracking.

It’s a game-changer, truly. I highly recommend everyone still gaming on a 60 Hz monitor invest in an upgrade.

24.94 limit your fps to that and play human eye doesn’t recognize more frames.

i know they arent the same thing, and you can only get as much or as little input lag as you monitor already has. different hardware results in different amounts of latency and it wont be changed without changing the hardware’s settings. having a higher fps doesnt change the fact that monitors have a max amount of images they can display per second with a set minimum latency

exceeding your refresh rate with higher framerates doesnt give you a meaningful advantage at all.

You probably wont watch this but it explains why you are wrong. Which you are

i watch the video and learned a lot, but my original point still stands. though you gpu can register more inputs with higher fps, you are much better off having a high refresh rate monitor to get better value out of your fps

Well… the best framerate is ALWAYS higher, due to input latency. But realistically, 60 is fine and 100+ is really good. That said, there’s a cutoff of noticeable difference, and depending on your monitor and system hardware, you may not even be able to get past the 60 mark.

you see in 240 fps
what I mean by this is if you see a screen beyond this there is no difference from 240 frames per seccond

120-144 is just fine
240 while being really good and an experience that I think if people can try one day they should
isn’t necessary
60 you can rock with
the main thing in my opinion is just not having high ping
