What was your first online FPS? oldheads welcome

Played a lot of them over LAN way back when. Doom 2, CS, Quake, etc. Over internet, one of the early Halo games?

Kind of got bored with fps games after that, and went back to fighting games.

Apex, around Season 3. I actually got pretty good, did aim training for an hour ever day, and moved on to Valerant, CoD, and a couple others before I landed on Overwatch, and it’s the only FPS I play now (and the only competitive game I play for that matter).

I’ve always been more into singleplayer games or co-op games, I’ve got 470 hours on BG3 lol

As a kid I was much more into MMORPG games on the PC so my first online FPS was actually Halo 1 / 2. And then back to MMOs for who knows how long until Overwatch. So I had no FPS on PC experience until this game.

Was Shadow Warriors the one that had a ninja as the main character and was made by the Duke Nukem 3D guys? I’d forgotten about that one. I played that, D3D, Blood, and Doom on LAN before we had modems/our mums let us use the phone line for the 56k modems.

Ut had plenty of this stuff. I remember you could place plenty of various modifiers into the match (esp in 2004)

I loved playing invasion against npc hordes of aliens using isntagip. It removed all collectibles off the map, gave you one modified pulse rifle that was one shotting everything. But the weapon itself had very slow rate of fire, and invasion had all sorts of plebs from big a$$ flying deamons and doom like rocket launcher deamons through little bugs that were actually very hard to hit sometimes lol. And while you had very op weapon, it was the only one you had access to, and created different kind of difficulty.

Yeah I think it was Everquest 2 or Final Fantasy 11 that really ate up my time as a kid. MMO’s just worked better in those days than FPS. Because lets face it most of us were on Dial up back in those days or really bad cable/satellite. A brief moment of data loss in a MMO is nothing.

But steady connections in FPS is always a huge issue in those days.

My first online shooter was half-life, which got me into the original counter-strike. That was also back when the majority of people were playing on dial-up.

Yeah you were ninja based characters, though it was set in the modern day so you still got things like rocket launchers I believe. Ninja stars and swords at the same time as modern weapons was funny.

I think it’s the same company as Duke Nukem I believe. Never knew it had 2 sequels though.

I think it had sticky bombs in. I remember really, really enjoying the sticky bombs.

Socom 1 for PS2 in 2002. The game has a tiny but hardcore community that revived the servers a couple years ago. I hop on the game sometimes for the nostalgia.

Sudden attack

Man that game was broken the more i think about it

Og Doom/wolfenstien or golden eye but what got me hooked was bf 1942.

UT2K4. Game was so damn good.

While not an FPS, what got me into shooters as a whole was Transformers: War for Cybertron and it’s sequel, Fall of Cybertron.

Unfortunately for me, Overwatch is the only thing that scratches the same itch. Praying for remakes of the cybertron games everyday.

Battlefield 1942, because I wasn’t allowed 15 or 16 rated games at the time, but that game was rated a 12.

The first one I ever played was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox360, though I think I may have only played it for like 10 hours at most. I didn’t really get into FPS games until I got my own PC when I was around 15 years old, and the first one I played extensively was Battlefield 4.

Call of duty 2 iirc, on the PS2! Didn’t really play FPS games until mw2 though. And honestly, I only played those as a teen. Overwatch is the only shooter I really play long term now.

Overwatch, not an old head

since i did not get the right to use the internet till i was 19 my first ever online FPS was Team Fortress 2

thoe if were talking across a school network via LAN that would be HALO CE

I played Doom (installed from floppy disks) on a computer so old and slow that i didnt know the plasma gun was an automatic weapon.

OG Counterstrike was the one that hooked me hard though.
