What valorant did right and what blizzard did wrong

Valorant is a hot topic. But is the game really that much better than overwatch season 3 when it was game if the year?

Overwatch made a terrible mistake. They believed making ow more easy and new user friendly would generate more money.

They tried to get new players on ow that had never played games before instead of looking at the massive gaming market as a whole and trying to steal players from other games.

Valorant is putting it out there they are a hardcore fps game. It will be competitive and it won’t be easy. They are doing the opposite of overwatch and clearly finding more success.

Stealing players from other games will be much more lucrative then trying to get players on your game that have never played a game before.

I’m not trying to be mean in this post. I like new players and we have a ranking system so they can play players in their rank…

Blizzard just leaned way too hard into that moba audience and neglected the fps competitive nature of the game…

Making games easier has always massively hurt the player base.
Fortnite

  • airplanes hit player base hard and dumbed it down
  • they made the same mistake with the balls people just sat in all game… Actually playing lost value.
    Apex legends
  • hero Watson introduced brought the mobility of the game screeching hault…

The ez mechanics have always been a mistake…ALWAYS

I mean, the game hasn’t been released yet and most of the hype revolves around the beta drops to actually play the game and try it out. I wouldn’t be too quick to judge.

That is true. But they have generated all of their hype and popularity by simply saying this is a very competitive fps game.

Furthermore those ppl watching twitch are watching bc they are interested enough in the game to try and get a drop

Overwatch is a teamwork game, that’s where it did wrong.
Video game players got used to solo play. They would not cooperate nowadays and blame others.
Teamwork just make people burnout.

They’re different, not one is right, one is wrong. Different people will prefer different games.

People like having easy to pick up, user friendly games

Personally, I hate hardcore competitive fps

Valorant is a very teamwork oriented game as well. Most games are. An attack being one player up is always a massive advantage.

Overwatch is no more team oriented than any other game. But because it had healers and tanks it allows for very long engagements and lots of battle.

Other game has short engagements where teams must attack together or get poked down

Exactly, people don’t like babysitting teammates, if they wanna play together as a team they gotta be free to kill enemies and just be tactical about it, they don’t wanna go to battle to keep teammates alive, that feels like a burden. (also it denies the enemies’ efforts).

Well yeah then, different types of teamwork, but both games require teamwork then.

OW’s problem is it never once thought to teach its players how to play the game. It simply cannot be played like any old FPS, it just can’t. More times than not you will get punished either by yourself or as a team if you don’t actively plan your engagements and take out the right targets first. That’s where almost everyone gets this game VERY wrong, ignoring healers most of the time and letting the biggest threat run uncontested for most of the game. We were left to just learn this on our own and most didn’t bother hence most of the outlandish balance choices to cater to that majority. You need to approach OW with FPS and strategy and MOBA games in mind.

The changes was them recognising that some heroes were broken as hell and fixing it.

what blizzard did wrong is poor, slow and stubborn balance , i mean they literally took months and months to edit something from 80 to 70. They have left their community to scream and cry again for months and months, doing nothing but waiting to blow over, which never did ofc.
Valorant is not a good game, at best its a 4, while overwatch was a strong 9 when it was released , yes it dropped to a 3 but that wasnt because it was a bad game, it was poorly treated by blizzard and it reflected on the game hard

then why did you play overwatch

Valorant is just a hype train for these streamers to make money. First it was Apex Legends and now it’s Valorant. Nobody cares about Apex Legends and in a few month Valorant will be in the same toilet bowl lolol.

Overwatch happens to be in First Person. There is nothing FPS left about it except the hitscans

it was a competitive FPS game, without question, that only changed with the metas after Brigittes release

The game didn’t even have competitive when it launched

Tactical shooters are also teamwork games, the only difference is that you can still get something done on your own without having to rely on every teammates at all times.

you really have to be delusional to say this.

valorant has been universally met with praise from overwatch players, and cs pros alike

to claim its not a good game is just hating.

Valorant will turn into it when they realize they not getting the revenue.

because they were working on the competitive system and didn’t want to push the game back for it, they literally marketed it as a competitive shooter, during blizzcon 2020 jeff said “overwatch is first and foremost a competitive shooter” they always planned on the game being competitive.

they had told pros about OWL being in the works long before the game even launched. that’s why people were grinding home brewed tournaments so hard, they wanted a slice of the OWL pie

remember how salty casuals were about them diverting resources to help with OWL? yeah that was before the game even launched.

there are 1.5 million people watching in hopes of getting a key, and they are making the game free.

don’t delude yourself into thinking the people who made the most popular game in the world are hurting for money.
