What is with the quickplay tryhards?

A lot of people have made really good points here and I’d like to address a few.

I’ve been playing since the original game first came out on and off, and I remember when I used to play OW1 a long time ago, my quickplay experience was what I explained before, nobody was really taking it seriously (usually) and I was just wondering what changed. I like to be a tryhard, that’s why I play competitive, but quickplay just feels like a much worse version of competitive and I was wondering what changed. I didn’t know about the matchmaking change. That definitely explains it.

And I get this in the arcade too. Not as frequently, sure, but it’s still there. I feel frustrated because while I love to play competitively I don’t want to do that 100% of the time and it often feels like there’s no escaping the people who have no other mindset but to be “competitive” and flame teammates who just don’t have as much experience with the game or simply don’t want to sweat that hard.

I guess I’ll go around and try other game types like FFA but I’m worried it’s more of a community problem than anything else.

idk i’ve been called sweaty in quickplay when i’m just chilling out of VC and playing.

It’s akin to the same, “Mercy pocket” comments in-match when I don’t pocket in quickplay…I just went over to heal them and left them after.

Like, do you want me to just let you win? Apparently if I try to win, too, even a little, it means I’m a tryhard lol.

The issue I think is a combination of a number of things:

  • Bad matchmaking
  • One-tricking
  • Skill level
  • Team comp
  • Ego

Skill level and team comp could be lumped together because I’ve had snipers play into an enemy dive comp, scream for heals then rage quit after it was suggested they switch.

There is irony in this post being made by someone with the name “Tryhard” unless it’s just to bash the tryhards I guess lol.

I think you do

One of my homies from high school was like that. He used try hard as an insult back in the Call of Duty days and named himself “Tryhard” followed by his tag. It was certainly a phase. And yes, he would try hard. And yes, he was aware of the irony. And no, I did not understand it.

Because the matchmaking is broken and competitive is dying.

So QuickPlay is all there is left.

… and its also broken.

So yeah

I feel like the only place I know of with the “do whatever” attitude is MH… and you wouldn’t get to PICK your off heroes… but you probably would get some chances to play them. Its the only place you’ll catch me on widow or hanzo cause I literally feel bad subjecting ANY team to me playing them intentionally.

I always felt like QP shouldn’t be the “whatever” mode cause it used to be the ONLY mode…

I don’t have the commitment or patience to play comp. But I am going to try my best to win in QP cause that’s really what OW is, there’s just less incentive to stay for a full game.

In my experience, not even competitive has better matchmaking. These devs decisions in general bring out the worst in players.

OW2 is an extremely frustrating game to play.

People will flame for any reason because they’ve got nothing else going on in their lives. I’ve been called a jittering sweaty try hard by people in QP despite having bad aim and a casual mindset these days. The reason why my aim turned terrible and shaky is because of essential tremors. I avoid medication since it doesn’t affect how I make a living nor has it progressed to extremes yet.

Matchmaking itself has been terrible since OW2 released a year ago. However, that doesn’t give everyone the right to insult, harass, or threaten others. I’m kind of glad people are now getting actioned more for bad behavior these days.

If you want to play around, troll, emote, wave and throw games then go to custom.

Don’t get upset when someone actually plays the game as it was intended to be played.

There is a very thin line between asking the best of players, and using garbage patents for ‘‘engagement’’.

And what we know from those patents, is that they already killed OW1.
Current game is on the same way, and everything is set for resetting and repeating the same process over and over.

On top of that, thanks to the junior bronze 4 scrubs from the balance team, that I stopped making any purchase from the shop.

I don’t waste my money on garbage development.

So they can fix it, or announce Overwatch 3 next year.

They 're just playing the game I think, problem is horrendous matchmaking it’s like playing with a bronze team/brand new players against top 500, it feels like they’re tryharding because your whole team is a dead weight

I was playing with 2 more friends and left the group middle of the match

That’s the current state of user experience in this game.

If you want to alt F4 despite being with friends, keep playing overwatch.
If you trully want to have fun, spectating, winning or losing, go play Fall Guys.

Oh and we were on QuickPlay btw.

That’s why I find myself playing alone most of the time.
If team can’t get out of respawn, I leave the game.

But friends… that can be rough.

Overwatch. Misery incarnate, and Blizzard’s first game that encourages to avoid playing with other fellow members of society xD

This game somehow manages to be extremely annoying, even when you win. I think the “stomp or be stomped” environment is one of the main culprits. Never fun to get stomped but when you’re in the team doing the stomping, I don’t find that fun either. It feels unearned, making one wonder whether your skills had anything to do with the win or was it only because the enemy team was filled with newcomers/bronze players (your good stats become less impressive when the entire enemy team has like 0/10). Then with there being such huge contrasts between matches, people just get confused and frustrated, likely developing false assessments of their own performance and finding it easier and easier to blame teammates. QP is a lot more toxic than it was in OW1 and, besides f2p bs, I think match quality plays a big part.

When/if I play this game it seems like the only pvp mode I can stand anymore is Mystery Heroes, the mode in which I expected one-sided stomps. Funnily enough, MH feels more “consistent/balanced” because the random nature of it also forces matches to fluctuate resulting in me having more those actually enjoyable back-and-forth games.

Its not, though. Quick play is for finding a quick game; its not some practice mode. That said, people shouldn’t play like their lives depend on it. You’re supposed to play to win all the same.

Indeed. Competitive play is the true practice mode.

So yesterday I was chased by a Reinhard and Angy mercy in Nepal, since it’s qp for fun I ran to their spawn instead of mine and they kept following me, finally they managed to off me at literally their spawn door, but my team capped the point.
So i wasn’t throwing but using my strategy☺️

Please don’t ruin qp by asking to do stuff like comp.
As long as someone isn’t afk it’s fine.

Even that is ok if you have to leave urgently.

The thing is your ‘best’ heroes put your MMR up higher than where you should ever be placed when you try new heroes for the first time. You need to keep playing a ‘new’ hero until you get MMR adjusted to where you should be at.

If you play a certain level for a long time it won’t adjust you as aggressively as if you were new player. Therefore, you are sort of stuck probably needing to lose multiple games over a period of time for it to really send you where you belong. You are getting ‘tryhards’ because you are severely underperforming from where you usually are on a new hero and your team is taking notice.

Part of learning new heroes is learning where you get countered and recognizing when to swap off.
