I trust no one on the battlefield.
Doing damage control for even a handful of spam bots or trolls that flood the forums with explicit and/or malicious content is a lot messier than “simply dealing with people”. It doesn’t matter how on top of their game the mods are; there are things that can’t be unseen (and links that can’t be unclicked).
As annoying as the preventative measures are, they ensure that close to everyone who can post clickable links and embedded images a) is an actual person, and b) has demonstrated the ability to behave themselves. And since those two abilities can cause instant problems for other users with a glance or a click, I think it’s pretty smart to have some sort of whitelisting process in place.
You need to keep reading and makin posts, giving and receiving likes, and not be a butt on the forums. After a while you’ll be trust level 3. It won’t tell you when though. Just remain active and positive, and you get trust naturally!
