What is quickplay lmfao

It’s developed to put anything on any team, A.K.A. do anything for a short queue.

Yeah, because there’s losers queue (don’t even try telling me it’s not a thing). If you win some 4-5 games, you’ll be forced to lose 5-6 before you can start winning again. Literally get some people that act worse than A.I. bots or they are actively standing alone in front of whole enemy team. Then once you’ve done you share of losses, it’s time for the enemy team to have those players. No joke, had games where no one on my team died once.

For the mental health of your friend, stop queueing together in qp.
You are effectively putting them into a position they can’t win, because the mmr disparity makes the ai think that you can carry them.
It’s not a good experience for them.

Play arcade, customs or ai with them. Wide teams are always scuffed in qp and comp.

I can understand you, Im a higher Platinum player and did the same with 2 new friends. Both when playing without me (Im 3 weeks working) than they drop back from Silver1/Gold1 into Bronze… Yes so bad they are. And really I dont enjoy the games with them. As a Support, I feel I cannt do anything about win/loss. So I switch to dps, than pull them higher. What can I say. If your friend wonnt learn the game mechanic - it will be pain for you to play. Overwatch or better said Blizzard games are not about: Install, start and play. Its about learning firts than about aim, game sense etc etc.

No, it is you (according to this forum) you are not good / strong / versatile / intelligent enough to carry your team to victory, so, it is you. According to this forum, you must have a winner’s attitude and you clearly do not…/s

Im of the same opinion too.

Im at the low end of the spectrum as a gamer and I am always being put up against high tier players.

All I can do at this point is cuss the moron that runs the servers and go WTF?"

To me, its a sick twisted and messed up joke to match low level players against high level players.

No, you are not…you are playing a game …this is it…comparison is the little brother of depression…do not go there…let them do it…you whereas: do you…much love to you, fam

That’s nonsense. The matchmaking AI is perfect.

there are so many factors that affect match quality that the matchmaker can’t account for.

  • a gm player has been playing on their alt for 2 months, then goes back to their main to play a different hero in quick play. Are they playing that hero at a gm level, or their old skill level? No
  • someone is drinking or smoking alone in their room and logs onto battlenet to do some gaming and maybe have fun. They normally play comp, but don’t want to tank their elo, so they queue quick play. Do they play their normal speed?
  • someone is tired.
  • Someone is ill.
  • Someone just went through a breakup.
  • Someone is hungry.
  • Someone forgot their meds.
  • Someone forgot to hydrate.
  • Someone has been playing too long in a bad posture and there’s an ache in their body they aren’t that aware of.
  • Someone is playing in a different posture to what they’re used to.
  • Someone is using a new mouse.
  • Someone who is used to playing with voice and carrying with coms is not doing that.
  • Someone who mostly stacks and has gotten good at a particular synergy among their friends has queued solo.
  • someone is lagging
  • someone just wants to goof off because they’re tilted and don’t want to play “properly”
  • someone is experimenting with their playstyle, doing things that they aren’t confident will work to push their limits and maybe improve

how is the matchmaker supposed to be aware of any of the factors like these, or the MANY factors beyond these, that are relevant in possibly every game? It can’t.

Remember that there is a HUGE skill distribution in overwatch. The game has been out for 10 years. The heroes have quite varied skillsets amongst their kits, they aren’t as transferable as you might think, particularly when measuring the playtime-experience on individual heroes in the hundreds of hours. Not to mention the time spent learning about the game from content creators etc.

I’m not even going to touch boosting, cheats, or private profiles hiding the actual elo of teams in quick play. Let’s be real, the matchmaker actually never stood a chance

There is SO much variation in player ability even if it were standardized per player. Add in actual individual player variance because of like whether they had a bad day at a work and suddenly its a whole nother kettle of fish levels of messy.

AS ALWAYS, if you want a BALANCED game, use one of the MANY third party tools to organise a SCRIM with other players who want to play THE SAME TYPE OF GAME AS YOU and are WILLING TO NEGOTIATE TO MAKE IT AS COMPETITIVE AS POSSIBLE

you can then assume, particularly if its planned in advance, that people are sober, they have had their coffee, they have warmed up, they’re playing a hero they’re confident with, in a playstyle they’re confident with, etc Even with just those factors alone accounted for, the game feels miles better. If you care about match quality in OW, for the love of god start playing some casual scrims with like minded people

Your arguments are flawed, because even if the examples you present happens, how often should they occur? 3 times in a row? 5 times in a row? 15 times in a row? 25 times in a row?
Any normal chance calculation would say this would not happen that many times in a row, but here we are, having threads upon threads with people claiming 20+ losses in a row, or having a boring time with that many wins in a row. All the things you say are outliers, and this should not result in that many loss/win streaks that are mostly stomps.

And the normal people who just play solo should DEFINITELY not have this as an experience.

THANK YOU for calling this out because I have this same experience on my main account (also masters support before I stopped playing comp), yet on an alt account I tried, the matches were balanced.

I think the issue is there are so few higher elo supports still playing the role, that Blizz can’t find any to match you up against, so your same-rank counterpart will almost always be a dps. And I don’t care how great you are as support, if your dps is gold and enemy dps is diamond or higher, your team is at a huge disadvantage. It’s even worse when the matched rank player on enemy team is the tank!

This happens in QP and in comp, which is why I stopped playing comp after the rank resets. Every match had higher level dps on enemy team, yet on my alt account it’s completely fair.

How the match maker should be working is:

1 ) When you turn on the game after 6am, it should count as a new day. This means that game should account for the last day you played and drop your expected potential by 15-20% of your last match.

2 ) When the game starts to make matches it should actually have a solo Q and a grouped Q. But they dont do that. So that makes match making a mess. So they should account for 2 or more players in a group size and expect that the people within that threshold have a major advantage over a SOLO Q player.

3 ) When a player participates in a match they should account for multiple things to add as an MMR score.

  • How many times were you defeated by 2 or more players.
  • How many times did you defeat more than 1 opponent at a time.
  • Your actual engagement of the objective. (Time and participation % of the objective.
  • How many times did you spend solo fighting another player outside of the objective.
  • Overall accuracy in the match.
  • frequency between times you defeating other players.
  • frequency of time after your respawn were you defeated again.

4 ) If you are struggling in a match, it should automatically lower your MMR rating right away by 12% so that way instead of it just throwing you into match after match where you are struggling and being obliterated by other players. it should begin to lower your MMR within 1 match and especially after 2.

As it stands today. This system doesn’t do that. It goes “oh, you get obliterated by the other team, lets find you a very similar match up and do it all over again”.
