What is even the point of dps?

it’s clearly not to deal damage since almost all of it is negated by healing. it’s not to get kills. tanks are unkillable with infinte hp and even more sustain. supports can giga heal themselves and escape any engagement. maybe you can kill another dps if they happen to be alone. if their support sneezes in their general direction they become unkillable. dps is actually a cosmetic role that has zero impact on the game. no wonder classic is so popular.

the sift to 5v5 left less mitigation, requiring more healing and beefier tanks to fill the same function. Dps generally need to be the weakest to ensure 1 dps cant run a lobby. I do like that DPS have to earn kills, but this is a tad too much for me

remove it call it utility and give it utility

The point of the damage role is to kill stuff, same as always. If you can’t kill stuff with the damage characters, that’s on you. No, Supports do not make their team unkillable nor are they unkillable.

What damage characters are you playing? There are annoying characters in all roles and I don’t like the low cooldown, high mobility, and high damage design of a lot of the dive tanks but that’s a 5v5 and solo-tank issue, not a support issue.

If you think the damage role has zero impact, you’re just bad at playing the damage characters. There is an issue with balancing favoritism and disparity between characters in the damage role such as Sym and Widow but if you think (especially hitscan) characters like the latter are “cosmetic” and “…have no impact…” You are just factually wrong.

Widow, Ashe, Tracer, and Cass already have and still can, especially Widow. She replaced Genji in dive in OW1 with 6v6 and is still a meta damage character in OW2 during dive metas with all the “damage mitigation” and additional characters to kill her.

I’m genuinely curious as to how people are still coming to the conclusion the damage role is weak. Who are you playing?

To apply the DPS passive and even that is apparently too difficult for your average DPS… And they wonder why I prefer my supports.
