What influenced the devs to make Tracer a lesbian?

She’s not bi.

The real question is, why a female? Gay females aren’t really taboo anymore. What if they had chosen a male hero.

maybe she’s just

a lesbian

Like seriously. We don’t make threads asking devs asking why they made other heroes straight.

This reads like satire to me lol

They chose Tracer because she’s safe.

She promotes the image of Blizzard being LGBTQ+ friendly without drawing the drama of making a male character, or a more “butch” female character like Zarya or Pharah, gay, which are far more controversial than a cute tomboy-ish lesbian.

I wonder what society you live in that the existence of a lesbian is ‘out there’.

It’s hardly unusual.

That moment When a DC show gets a better lesbian than your AAA game

what show??

Probably being part of a generation that realizes for now that marketing approach sells to Millenials taught more about tolerance than actual work skills, and it’s easy to get the check box. If history is any indicator at some point the attitudes will shift again, though people will recoil and hate me for saying that but it’s true.

Legend’s of Tomorrow/Arrow’s Sara Lance. having a badass with feelings is better than having a stereotype

Probably her tomboyish look, although I would expect Zarya to be homosexual because of Tatu. It’s not really that controversial if you think about it, long time ago they’ve been doing anime with homosexual characters - sailor moon for example.
also I remember there was some buzz about tracer winpose being too sexist or smth, maybe it’s connected. i don’t really understand it though as shes really flat and unattractive to me regardless of winpose, so maybe shes really a lesbian. there was some old capcom fightning game, final fight, at that time sjws make as well buzz about beating in it street women, so the creators turned these into crossdressers to clarify it’s not beating women at all lol. Generally in OW there is a lot of girls that looks like feminist or femme fatale but we need a TS character like poison from final fight.

Not sure what part of my post gives the impression that I’m not calm? I just tried to expose him to the possibility of other reasons.

No. What would help is if their orientation is confirmed at reveal. So that there isn’t a year worth of personal head cannon built up one way. Than changing it to something else. This is a problem for characters in media, in general. There’s been superheroes that have had things setup decades ago.

All to be found out to be a lie. Or some stupid recon. Metroid Other M is a perfect example of this. There was lore setup. Personal head cannon, and expectations on how Samus acts. This was changed in Samus’ origin story, in Other M. It was not accepted. The game is ignored and hated till this day.

We already had this discussion 1 and 1/2 years ago.

Oh ok, I don’t know why but it seemed like you were getting triggered by his response

What influenced the devs to put characters with different nationalities in a game? Can’t they all just be cardboard box in a form of pixel with no dialogues nor personalities whatsoever?

Notice how as the push for LGBTQ+ communities have dwindled ever so much, so too has dwindled the efforts to support them

A woman at Blizzcon 2016 opened Pandora’s Box by asking if there were any LGBT characters in Overwatch, and if you’re in the entertainment industry and someone asks you that you have the option of:
A) Saying no and risking being strung up on social media and accused of being all sorts of nasty words.
B) Saying yes and quickly making one of your “safest” characters LGBT so you look good on social media for some extra brownie points.

Did we need LGBT characters? Nah not really, it’s a team shooter not a story driven game (like you guys SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE), any character backstory is fluff and doesn’t exactly change the game.
They could add another male hero and state that he’s bisexual if they wanted, great, cool, still not going to play him unless he’s fun to play.

I’m not trying to be nasty, i’m just saying it how I see it.

Omg is it 2016 again??

Apparently, guess everyone missed the weekend-post window.

[EDIT] Oh hey, 800th post.
