Heroes like Widow/Hanzo/Mei/Sombra should never be the optimal pick over sustained damage over time heroes like Soldier:76, Tracer and Genji. The game is not fun when Stuns/Hacks/One Shots are everywhere
The problem is DPS should be balanced through out in a more mechanical way. Heroes that have low mobility should be more damaging or have more survivability then mobile ones. Unfortunately overwatch really dropped the ball in this. Seeing as the strongest heroes have all of this. Hanzo, doomfist, widow, and Ashe all have far and away the best DPS kits. Getting both fantastic damage, escapes and in some regard sustain.
DPS is the only role that should have all characters while mechanically unique be more map dependant on picks. This way all heroes see play and all heroes have actual strengths at all levels. Seeing the same 5 DPS compete for most annoying pick for the last 3 years got old.
Meta picks are always complained about. They are complained about by one tricks whose main isn’t them. They are complained about by players who can’t overcome their kit and see them in every game. They are complained about by the players that feel they are forced to play as them and they are complained about by players who are tired of seeing them in every game.

So soldier76 is fine.
The forum doesn’t like any meta pick. A week into a new meta, and you will be drowned in posts about how the hero is unfair to play against, unskilled, and sickening. Out of meta? Skillful, fair, and good hero.
McCree was considered a fair hero before he was meta. The moment he got meta, he is suddenly an annoying, unskilled team wipe machine.
Well, some playing a substantially more skill based game than others.
Maybe, you still have to do better than others at the same rank.
Some heroes give you more latitude than others.
Just remove role queue and give us back goats. As a DPS main I’ll gladly take it
Clearly not Symmetra. They finally fixed her primary after a year of incompetence of coding. Then nerf her whole kit by 20% or more even though she wasnt even meta in her own meta lol. Blizzard is a joke.
