What does the world of Overwatch think of cybernetics?

My main point just being that it’s common enough to be a regular “choice” to overcome a problem such as losing an arm. Most people don’t get eye surgery because it’s fun or would marginally improve their sight. Maybe I should have just compared it to a modern day prosthetic. It’s not a revolutionary thing is all.

McCrees arm got ripped off by Bob, Ashe said it in the cinematic. Probably because he had the deadlock tattoo on it. Or at least thats what it sounded like.

Doomfist probably has a lot more cybernetics than just the arm. Look at his Talon skin and his knees.

And Genjis process was unique?

I think everyone draws the line at “skynet.” Aside from that, seems most are indifferent to enhanced individuals in overwatch.

What do you mean draws the line at skynet? As in not wanting to be fully machine with just a human consciense?

No, it wasn’t. McCree and Bob get along. Ashe was just threatening to have Bob rip off his other arm.

Oh… so they are good friends, nice lol.

That does beg the question as to what happened to him. He says he admired Genjis arm so he wanted to get one himself.

They seem to be very chill with the idea.
Except for Genji’s early years as a cyborg. That was one grumpy boy.

We actually don’t know. Ana used to have one that she claimed to be so powerful that she didn’t even need the scope most of the time to hit shots… before it was shot out by Widowmaker.

Symmetra may or may not have chosen to remove her arm surgically to have better access to her Hard Light technology.

And Sombra chose to transform herself into a living hacking machine in the most Cyberpunk vibes possible.

The rests were the results of war and conflict that make them amputee.

Can be.
Doomfist’s family business IS in the field of cybernetic prosthetics, which explains his right arm. And he is pretty freaking rich.

Maybe yes?
But you do have to keep in mind this is some time in the near future, maybe people have found a way for people to get used to their prosthetic faster and more efficient than we were currently having.

Most of them would NEVER consider prosthetic if it weren’t:

  1. Enhancing combat potentials like Ana, Sombra, and Soujourn (Storm Rising voice lines have her and Genji discussing the human parts of cybernetics, and from her tone, she pretty much has no problems with her own cybernetics).
  2. Getting into serious accidents like Torb, Doomfist, and Genji.

Hell, Genji didn’t want to be cyberized when he was rescued by Overwatch after Hanzo’s stabby incident, because of how severe his cyberization was.

Seems to be very chill… at least the one that helped transform Sombra into what she is today.

We actually have no idea XD

What would happen if somebody was extremely injured and their body was completely mangled. Say it was possible to transfer their brain and consciousness to an omnic body, would they still be human? They’d still have all the memories of being human, they’ve spent most of their life that way, they still have a human brain, but their body is metal. I imagine Genji used to question this too

Obviously someone probably wouldn’t survive this but let’s forget about that just now.

Yea but this keeps interesting me. If it doesn’t have many drawbacks then whats holding people back? Clearly some of them should have the wealth for it. Dva could get more reflexes/coordination, Lucio idk, Reinhardt could get more strength, Hanzo could get better precision/agility…

Tracer… tracer could get even more speed and reflexes? Or maybe it would be just too risky with the chronal accelerator/time stuff that is going.

The skins everyone dislikes, Irin and Caution, seem to be canon. At one point, Doomfist was a full cyborg.

Also to read Omnic language, you have to be augmented.

If I have to guess, it is because most of them have a “Nah, I’m good” mentality when it comes to cybernetics.

Think of them as more of a “want to have” item than a “need to have” item. Sure, having cybernetics would give me a greater edge, but unless I am a super-soldier or an amputee, I don’t really need cybernetics to help myself with my daily life.

And people are naturally very attached to their limbs, with some even show signs of mental instability after losing one of them.

There has to be a bit more than just that. Energy, repairs, adapting, learning to control it… there must more. I cant imagine so many people seeing all this tech and not wanting it.
