Her lore always fascinated me. Having gone from being the privileged daughter of a conservative French family and unsuspecting wife of a high-ranking Overwatch agent to a cold-blooded sleeper-assassin working for Talon.
From the bits of lore we’ve seen throughout the years, it’s been heavily implied that Amélie is still in there somewhere and that Moira maintains her condition.
The recent developments with Vendetta usurping Doomfist gave her an opportunity to break free from Moira and Talon, so she slipped away into the night as a free agent. Now she roams in search of that one thing that makes her feel alive (murder).
And that’s as much as we know about her current situation. So, what do we think will happen to Widowmaker?
An Emre-esque identity crisis as Amelie starts to come back to the surface?
A return to treatment because the memories are too much?

I dont think they are going to point her into some redemption arc but they certenly are going to use her no longer being in talon and have access to the drug that made her emotionless as a way to finally make her face the insane amount of grief and pain she suffered

I wonder if she’ll develop a “Minthara-mentality” about it? BG3 reference but despite enduring immense trauma, torture, and mind control, she keeps fighting after she’s freed. She recognizes that she was used as a puppet, but refuses to be a victim.
If anything she’s pretty apathetic towards the people she killed. “Those who died to me should have been better fighters. The point is that it wasn’t my choice to fight. That’s the problem.”
She was so enraged over losing her autonomy and the success she’d been guaranteed at birth (similar-ish to Widow’s wealthy family), that she quite literally took an oath of vengeance over what was done to her.
Maybe we’ll start to hear about high-level Talon operatives getting mysteriously picked off?

I’m really interested to see what happens to all the Talon agents who just left, and Widow is probably the least predictable of any of them.

sorry to reply on an old post but like you her lore has always fascinate me so i’m really curious as to how her story will progress. i think (hope) we might see her deal with the aftermath of the lack maintenance of her reconditioning and the pain and grief that will come with it, from the bits and pieces that we can see from the interactions and her visiting Gerard’s grave we can imply that there’s something inside her that can’t really come out fully but nonetheless makes her react defensive (her interactions with ana and soldier) or the closest to sad/grief she can manage. Due to the long time she’s been submitted to the treatments i imagine the coming back of memories and feelings will be too much to handle at once and she might need help (that’s where i think mercy’s “i know she’s in there somewhere” could be developed further, not in a cliche redemption thing but just seeing two characters who are basically figures of life and death interact would be really good for both of their storylines), i hope she can find or be found by someone who can help before it becomes unbearable. Other than that i wish we could see her journey building her new self, since she’ll no longer be fully widowmaker and can’t go back to being fully amelie, the whole relearning how to feel and the self knowledge so she can stand again as her own person who isn’t tied to being a guillard, lacroix or assassin (even though she can’t escape any of these old versions (she tried)).
