It’s been two weeks since either one of them said a word in the forums (besides today’s “hey guys we’re delaying a patch 30 minutes before it was meant to go up, and we are not going to give you any details on when to expect it” post).
Two weeks- what do you think they did in those two weeks?
Which community do you think they managed? Do you think they were busy taking classes on managing communities? So they can get started on that whole “more and better and more frequent communication” thing we’re supposed to be getting?
I’d say they’re like a news show moderator that won’t even try to put up with whatever trash the people in suits expect them to passionately read out loud anymore.
As the team lead, over time I’ll naturally be focusing less on the day to day tactics, and more on team/community goals and strategy. As the team grows, I’d expect to see less of me day to day, but much more of folks like Jodie (and our eventual teammates).
So that was a lie, huh? The only two I know of are Andy and Craig and neither exist. Neither are ever here responding to anything.
The expectation that that’s something they do is set by them being here, doing it- but only sometimes. Sometimes they’re here every day for a week, sometimes they’re absent for two weeks straight.
Surely part of the job description is “Spend a whopping 10 minutes every 3 days responding to major concerns on the forums” or something? At the very least, “respond to and update your own pinned thread instead of ditching it to the wolves forever” has gotta be part of it?
Either call them something else or make them start doing what their job title implies, cuz they’re not doing it. And it’s very frustrating.
Operating from memory, but I believe they are required to spend time on Reddit, the forums, and discord servers, etc., but that is more about gathering information and relaying it to other staff members as opposed to being the sacrificial lambs to get continually insulted by a volatile player base.
I mean, I absolutely want and expect more communication than we get, but I also wouldn’t want to be the person getting grilled into perpetuity every time I wanted to pop into a thread. To an extent, you can’t win as a CM when it comes to the forums. You post too little, you post about the wrong stuff, you don’t give answers people want, etc. Its not a job I would want, and I’m a dude that no-lifed forums for a few years and had more than 10k posts on the old WoW forums.
Not to blame the victims, but dont you think people would be more amicable about official communication if it happened regularly, instead of only happening after weeks of boiling up frustration?
A blue post and acknowledgement of things is like lifting the pot off the fire for a few minutes. The longer you wait, the more it’s going to boil over.
If I’m being honest, I’m conflicted about this one. I want the answer the be “yes”. Personally, I would be way less disgruntled and grumpy if we had more communication.
The flip side is that it does seem like every time I’ve seen blue text routinely appear on a forum across the different franchises, it’s just a matter of time until a group comes along and messes it up or a problem happens and they’re not at liberty to discuss it. Just turns into a “this is why we can’t have nice things” sorta moment.
it’s not as if this some new thing, these people decide to get into PR in the video game industry, and then decide to work for the most hated company in gaming
it’s like being the iraqi information minister (but with less power, clout, influence and fewer benefits)
