Then you don’t use Reddit. I’m not saying that what he said would have been well received, but it wouldn’t have been a cesspool like here. People just spouting off insults or low effort posts would get downvoted and constructive well thought out feedback would get upvoted.
With the old forums downvote system you would get downvoted not for the content of your post, but if you simply disagreed with whatever mains were on the post. Had anything to say about Valk Mercy that wasn’t “revert Mercy” enjoy your post going into the negatives. It’s behavior that’s specific to these forums because for whatever reason a lot of the people on here tend to be casual players, support mains or “niche” character mains like Torb/Sym/Bastion/Sombra
Oh yeah, on this I wholly agree with you.
Bad in what way? The only thread I can remember like that was in the main Overwatch forum talking about how highlights dominate the main subreddit. If that’s what you’re referencing that’s separate from players being abusive.
At this point I guess the damage is done and it’s a bit late. When I say damage, I mean the increasing lack of interaction with their community from after the first year of the game being released. That and the fact they appear to have a different vision compared to the community’s vision of Overwatch and its future.
Okay, I’ll concede this. Didn’t see it. To be fair though this post calling out people’s behavior is also getting a lot of awards and upvotes. You have people saying that it’s understandable here.
I saw the same complaining on reddit as I did here, just with more paragraphs. Basically reddit was just as negative as the forums. Why are you trying to pretend reddit is some holy bastion of discussion on the game anyway? R/cOW is mostly esports drama followed parroting whatever pros and streamers say , r/ow is QP highlights, and R/owUniversity is just tips and advice. Not to mention R/COW downvoted anything they don’t agree with just as bad as the old forums. At least here you’re comment can’t be downvoted and hidden.
To be fair, “downvote” is still here on the forums in the shape of flagging. I remember seeing a well thought out opinion about Mei and how she could be changed by not making her trash tier or OP. The thread got hidden due to flags in 5 minutes.
I generally don’t see most posts outside of troll posts flagged and hidden. Mind linking the Mei post to me?
Most of the overwatch subreddit thinks the same way but their way of thinking isn’t usually wrong
I’ll try to search it back
EDIT: Wow… It got 404’d. But i remember it having including the ult charge being slightly nerfed, giving more chance to tanks to fight back and some compensation buffs. And everyone in the posts even Mei mains wondering about how it got flagged.
As much as the 404’d threads are mostly just trolling threads and political accusations, this site needs some archiving and searching by Google caches as well.
You know what I take back my previous posts. The devs do need to be more active within the community and the backlash is understandable. I haven’t been playing Overwatch as much as I used to so maybe I’m not as angry as people who are playing much more frequently.
But having very few updates only one hero launch before OW2 and little communication after that has to be grinding the gears of the community. They have to do better.
To be correct about what i said in OP is that if you want to follow what the devs are doing, they post on Reddit more frequently now. I havent said thats a great and non-toxic site but at least theres more that two topics brought up and has some positivity mixed there.
Im in a standby mode currently only going back for placements and collecting the event skins until OW2 comes out. If someone is on the edge of burning out, i can advise the same thing.
Not actually what he said. Just more misinterpretation by this toxic community. As a gamer, I’m ashamed to be part of it right now.
Yeah this is me as well. I didn’t even do placements last season and stopped once i got the skins I wanted.
Unlike flagging in the forums, reddit downvote hides the thread away. So if there’s a thread people don’t want other to see, they downvote it to the negatives.
The reaction wasn’t surprising. Community became very toxic due lack of structured engagement and community management. Will take a lot of work from everyone to get things to a positive state.
Yes yes. We all need attention and lots of reinforcement in the form of community engagement. Otherwise we can’t be expected to do anything other than become toxic little jerks… or maybe people should think, reason, and try to engage with ANYONE in a mature manner? Dont give yourselves excuses for your own bad behavior. You’re not toddlers.
Someone hasn’t seen Jeff’s rant against the EQ developers back when he was a normie and not in charge of a game, lol
Well as they say; If you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
A lot of the hate and ridiculing is unfounded tho I must say but eh, people love acting (or being) like edgy, witty teenagers on the internet. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
