Welcome to Season 28 of Competitive Play

Do you mean a hacker/cheater who actually created bots across mutiple accounts? Who are these weirdos and why do they have so much time/money to do something like this?

Sigh, for a ‘competitive mode’ we’re sure having problems. Game feels like it’s on life support mode at the moment as normal players dwindle and the game is taken over by throwers/smurfs or hacking/cheating.

No, it was like the server had somehow decided that we had waited long enough for a game, and created a game with 6 bots on one side and our team on the other. All the bots had the same battletag, and they were in “easy” mode. We just stood at the main spawn entrance and killed them before they could leave the spawn.

Strangest thing I’ve ever seen in this game. But I suspect there is some kind of SLA for game wait time or some other algorithmic matching requirement.

Earlier in the day, I got placed in a Bronze team where the other side was all Gold. Needless to say, it was a very short game, and the SR drop after the game just added insult to injury.

I think the Pharmercy buff was probably the last straw for a lot of Bronze players, and so the server is having trouble creating Bronze comp games. I did get a couple of good games later in the evening, so it could be time dependent.

That is so weird. How long was your wait time? I’ve waited for over 15 minutes with a team and we eventually had to dissolve into a smaller group since we seemed to be getting nowhere.

Pharmercy is troubling in Bronze. I can’t really aim as a DPS to deal with Pharah although as a Support I can contribute some chip damage using Baptiste or Zen’s discord. Can’t aim well enough as Ana to make a difference. Zen is arguably the best Support counter in lower ranks because he can discord Pharah making her an easy target for other players.

It’s his combination of discord and his long range (no drop off) poke and ability to hide around corners and unleash burst damage to a Pharah that makes it much easier for me to take her out.

She’s frustrating because she really hard counters certain targets like Junkrat, Symmetra and Brig (all my favourite characters) and the only way to defeat her is to choose a different Hero or rely on your teammates to swap. And of course I can’t really play Winston or D.va well.

I queued solo for tank/support, and it was 12 minutes, which is probably nothing for DPS, but a little weird for tank/support.

The problem with Pharah in general, is that if the DPS won’t swap off to hitscan, she just takes out the healers. The ultimate back line attack (against noob and scrubs and heroes). Sure you can change to Zen or Bap, but then you get “Why no heals?”, to which my reply is “Coz I’m doing your fkn job ziphead.”

If I’m playing tank, and they have a Pharah or Pharmercy, I play DVa, and do nothing except hunt those two all game until they switch off. DVa is pretty good at killing Pharahs, and really good at killing Mercys if they are in the air, because they can’t fly away.

But of course, then DVa is “throwing”, because “no shield”. It’s definitely a game for children.

Lol I try not to criticise DPS too much because I can’t aim either as a DPS since I play Symmetra and Junkrat.

One thing I noticed is that Tanking is a really difficult concept for people to grasp. I still see Reins and Winston going Charging or Jumping through enemy barriers going ‘Why no heals?’ and exposing their team to fire. When I play Tank I don’t blame my supports if I make a risky play and am out of their range.

Winston’s Barrier really helps against Pharah so I’m more comfortable using him against Pharah. Dive characters are the hardest to use since you need mechanics which I sorely lack.

I played Quake and similar for years before coming to OW. The whole concept of someone else on your team being responsible for your healing was foreign to me. When I play Ball, I sort my own healing out. I walk every map to find where the megas and the baby healths are, and Ball is so fast he can nearly always get to a health powerup on his own. I tell the healers to focus on the other players. I don’t expect a res from Mercy, and always say thankyou if I get it.

To be fair to DPS, they are just not as experienced as Tank and Support in actual combat. If it takes 2 minutes in queue to get a tank/support game, and 15 minutes in queue to get a DPS game, then tank/support are going to be in 6v6 combat a lot more often than DPS are.

And then DPS spend the majority of their game time in deathmatch, which has instant respawn, so you don’t really pay for the consequences of not managing your health. They should change Deathmatch to have a 15 second respawn, that would have the DPS of the game learn map control.

Unfortunately the game doesn’t really teach you positioning and roles very well. The role of a Winston or Rein in a team is very different from Hog and even between Rein and Winston your role might be similar but how you achieve it and the positioning required is very different.

While waiting for the Anniversary start, I did my OQ placements. Mostly playing Baptiste (sometimes DPS (McCree, Torb, one time Sym.:v:)) in silver, went 7:0, (on both accounts :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:) not too bad, I expected worse.

Some matchups & queue times were a little … strange (6 solos vs a 3stack (2x times), a few stomps (on both sides), 3 silvers/3 bronze vs 6 bronze), I presume that (low elo) OQ is not too popular on xbox …

Overall, I’m actually quite happy with how it went (made 80/71 Sr+). :slightly_smiling_face: I still have to work MUCH MORE on positioning, not running in a straight line and not to get easily p… er, angry when we lose a point in the last 10 seconds. :see_no_evil:

Please do something about the smurfs

No, thank you. But the community lacks teamplay too much as it would be fun to play this competitive or even this game any more.
I will play it and continue demanding teamplay from the team until this account get also banned by the reports for “abusive chat”. Because we all know “please teamplay” is abusive chat.

It’s going 5 vs 5 the one thing no one asked for ever.

Can we not have rated 5 vs 5 in competitive. I and my boyfriend kirito are # 1 snipers in all hero’s and 5 vs 5 comp is not fun for players were going against. when the fanbase targets healers first dps 2 and than finish the tank as 3 and last resort. for me and kirito we usually focus headshots :100: percent on healers dps I’ll usually be on dva but he my boyfriend kirito mains torb he rarely misses widows at long range or bastions. The world :earth_americas: could always use more heros.

I accidently posted same message twice.

What does your good friend chris metzen think about 5v5?

He’s doing board games but probably wouldn’t like it.

What a Good Game.

So why do I lose SR if my whole team leaves.

Good comp day for me. :slightly_smiling_face:

  • Got my tank role out of bronze (after 2 or 3 seasons too … hum, lazy to do more than placements.). :v: (Yeah, yeah, the little things. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)
  • The only leaver today was my old… frenemy, the de-ranking Bastion-main, who went afk before the match started. - Game canceled, dodged that bullet. Lucky, I guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you OW, every single game I join has 1 smurf, your passivity attitude has killed the game, I guess is because the development of OW 2, after your work done with OW1, we are seeing cheaters everyday and in my elo smurfs, I WON’T buy your expansion (OW2)

My rank just got reset because I decided to opt out of crossplay?

I went on a win streak in competitive play, but my SR is the same. Can anyone explain why this is?. Also when I lose a match my SR drops. This doesn’t make sense. It’s a little off putting and makes me not want to play the game.
