Rise to the top and take on the Challenger Tier, an overhaul of the Top 500 leaderboards and high-level competition in Overwatch. Join us as we break down the basics of the new system and how to enjoy the race for glory, even if you’re nowhere near Grandmaster.
Absolutely wonderful. Marvelous.
Now, how do you expect the console players in such high ranks, of which the most have played and tinkered with their settings for years, to be ‘up to the challenge’?
I would expect some news on the progress you’ve made regarding that issue. This is nice to have, but I think there are more pressing issues? Again? Must we really do every single side quest for Overwatch before doing the main quests?
I think it’s a mistake to make the rankings mostly about season-long engagement rather than actual rank. I have no interest in climbing the challenger board if a much lower ranked player can be above me by playing more. The leaderboard should show the highest ranked players. To me, this change makes the leaderboard meaningless.
XIMs will certainly be up to the challenge, seeing as how they’re the only ones unaffected by the sensitivity changes but oh will they love the aim assist changes.
How nice of Blizzard to buff XIMs as they drop a dumbed down and more accessible T500 leaderboard on the same day.
Great. A system that maybe 0.01% of people will enjoy. Really a worthwhile use of development time.
So being the best means nothing if some random without a job can rack up enough Challenger points?
More competitive? This system is anti competitive.
The only competition will be the streamers fighting for more visibility to grow their audiences, and who even watches OW streamers these days anyway?
Heck yeah!
I’m so up for the challenge!

I was about to say you wouldn’t get anywhere near it, but hey, you just need to be Diamond and play a lot to be T500 now.
Always has been. This game launched without a competitive mode and when it did drop, we had coin flips. Almost everything since has been for casuals. Such as hero bans. Yeah, I said it. I do not care. Buddha speaks the truth. Banning Vendetta instead of exploding her is a coward’s move.

Yeah if we’re going to make competitive truly competitive then we need to remove the hero bans!

Nah they’re staying sorry not sorry
You do not technically need to be diamond. I got challenger score as a platinum just because of the loose matchmaking.
Well I would be in top 500 easily if I played on Console in a low population region such as NZ!

So you’re telling me a Plat could potentially hit T500 over a Master
Yeah, all this game’s competitive nature is going out the window
Not how it works.
OCE, including NZ, is part of the NA leaderboard.
So you’re competing with 3 continents worth of players; OCE, NA and SA.
I mean, that is the essence of comp already. It’s a matter of who is willing to discard their dignity first by meta slaving to the top.
This just makes comp slightly more aligned with the least self-respecting people you could possibly cater to.
What’s the issue with picking good heroes? Even on the best heroes majority of the playerbase will never be above diamond. Not everyone just wants to just 1 trick a hero and complain on the forums about them weekly.
“A renewed look at the Top 500 system has been one of the community’s most requested features”
Lol yes I see posts about this every day! FINALLY THEY ARE LISTENING!!! (this is sarcasm)
It’s not hard to do. You pick the hero that’s has the most value for the least amount of effort. Where’s the fun in that? It’s the equivalent of a corner camper in the old CoD or Battlefield games with an LMG.
If your sense of fun is seeing the win screen, then by all means. No honor, no glory.
I mean the overwhelming majority of the community does not care about the top 500 to begin with since fewer than 10,000 players (across all regions and queues) are in the running for it. But at least if you heard someone say they were top 500 or you got in a lobby with a top 500 players it meant something. Now it doesn’t even have that appeal going for it.
Just seems like poorly thought out engagement farming to me. Hope a diamond 4 tops one of the leaderboards to make a joke of this system
