This post explains sub-role passives. They are supposed to emphasize hero identities, they say.

Medic subrole gets less ult charge at full health?!? No wonder these characters have felt off.

Edit 2: apparently the text detailing the reduced ult charge was removed a few hours after the original post.

Can we get Moira assigned to another subrole? Medic is a poor fit for her optimal playstyle of mixing healing and damage. Being chained to team isn’t something you do the entire time. Especially when resource gets low. You need to range out occasionally.

Edit: Medic is a poor fit for Kiriko as well, come to think of it. She has a similar playstyle to Moira in that she moves in and out of her team regularly.

Is the information in here wrong or is the ingame information wrong? Ingame it doesn’t state medic gains less ult charge at full hp but here it does. Worrying to see either one of these sources be wrong.

Also why is the cooldown for the initiator passive not listed here or ingame? It’s really weird to have such an important part of a passive like that to be entirely hidden especially when it makes a large difference to the total use it gets in a match.

The medic makes no sense. So they get less ult charge if they aren’t damaged? So like what are you trying to incentivize them to do? If they heal someone which is seemingly what you want they also get healed. But if they don’t need the healing anymore they no longer benefit from the passive and on top of that get less ult charge? So using cover playing well all that is what like, what you want them to not do? That doesn’t make any sense. So you punish them for playing well, but also make it easier to punish them for playing well. Glad I don’t play any of these heroes it seems miserable.

The new sub roles definitely are interesting!

Meow!

:smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

It says juno’s speed ring triggers the passive, but I’ve never seen it activate?

Whether it’s effective in battle or not, I still don’t think the Sharpshooter passive fits those heroes at all.

Good point. Pretty sure it only triggers when she uses her personal speed ability.

How about giving the initiator sub role a passive that isn’t useless

But tucked inside all the new hotness

Never again.

Buff Initiator.

Two things.
Delete the medic subrole passive asap. Hindering heroes for playing safe is incredibly bad game design.

And:
“Confident in your ability to click heads?” I know a certain cowboy one trick who doesn’t.

Coming back to try out the new update really has this game feeling like Passivewatch anymore

specialist passive is terrible unless youre emre or soldier. please change it to something else, i cant understand why heroes like mei or sym were put here with that lol

Cool. Now take Reaper out of the Flanker passive because clearly you have not balanced him to be a flanker. This passive is worthless on immobile heroes.

Does this team just not understand how scaling works? This passive is 20x more valuable to heroes like Tracer with 2 hp than heroes like Reaper with 300.

a Hero with the Recon Sub-Role and damage an enemy below half health to reveal them through walls. The effect only lasts for five seconds, though, so get in there for the killing blow posthaste.

I really dislike this passive. If i’m playing sombra, and I damage someone to half, and they go around the corner, then I’m either chasing after them and already know their location or I’ve already abandoned the fight and don’t care about their location. It’s decent on Freja who can bolt get someone peaking a corner with it, but it’s pretty meh overall especially for how weak the heroes it’s on are to begin with

Specialist
Bastion, Emre, Junkrat, Mei, Soldier: 76

The fast reload effect itself feels really good on some of these heroes, but it annoys me a bit how random the classification is. Like what makes “soldier 76” a specialist he’s the most generalist hero in the game. I get he’s here because the sharpshooter passive doesn’t benefit him, but it still bugs me a bit.

Oh it’s also annoying how the quick reload icon stays up when you’re already at full ammo

And they forgot to list symm here

For Heroes who can shift the tide of battle with a well-placed Ultimate, the Tactician Sub-Role helps supercharge their ability to gain another: they retain excess Ultimate charge after using one, up to 25% of their total Ultimate charge

I really like this effect, definitely my favorite of these passives.

Important thing to note is that, as a core-template to the Support-role, all Supports are capable of self-healing through the use of their abilities. So Moira, Kiriko, and Lifeweaver can self healing through Biotic Orb, Protection Suzu, and Rejuvenating Dash, respectfully.

Mercy would be the only one that doesn’t have a cooldown that does this for her, but she does have other elements that allow for self-healing. She also has one of the cheapest Support ultimates in the game.

The current Tanks with the Initiator sub-role are dominating and healing more than Junker Queen and Roadhog. D.va and Winston are doing extremely well.

Admittedly, all the above heroes except Soldier have slower than average reload speeds, so the boost helps them a bit.

It’s intended to available for three seconds after a kill. So spend some ammo and reload it, or go shoot something.

So 9 support characters are now punished for taking cover and rewarded with 25% faster ult charge for taking damage. This makes so much sense.
