Weekly Recall: Jetpack Cat, The Purr-fect Storm

“Even her most game-changing ability, Lifeline, removes most of Jetpack Cat’s overall team utility by restricting damage and healing.”

Too bad the utility of taking risk away from auto-targetting or wide AoE ults, or the ability to circumvent enemy map control at basically no cost far outweighs any loss in healing or damage.

Overwatch is an objective-based game. It’s pretty much all about map control.

This is why she is getting banned constantly.

The cat is overweight and not producing real cat sounds. Uninterested.

What do you mean? Unlike Lifeweaver the other player has an interact prompt so they retain autonomy when JPC is on their team. I’d love a similar feature implemented for Lifegrip and petal.

Which are? How does she grief her teammates more than a Lifeweaver pull or a Mercy refusing to heal anyone but their duo.

Or any Genji, Doomfist, or Ball one trick when there’s an entire team of counters?

I’m sorry, but you created another Sombra. No one wants them on their team because they just troll, and no one wants them on the enemy team because they’re annoying. It’s not that there isn’t counterplay, it’s that she’s simply unpleasant to interact with. Y’all see the ban rates, do something about it.

Precisely. I understand the drawbacks in theory, but the advantages still far out weigh them. Imo fuel regen needs further nerfs and tether needs to be put on a timer.

I gave them two shots but it’s hard to take Dodo seriously when they avoid defending their position in a meaningful way.

No, pretty stupid is to get targeted as a suport by a tank. Like you want to play the game and the enemy tank will just follow you for the rest of the game. So yeah, tank mains deserve to suffer too.
PS: you can counter her ult with almost every hero, so it is also a skill issue

Honestly, I was hoping for at least a section on that as well.

And then you have people that claim we just ban what is new. If that is the case, how did Wuyang escape this treatment?

We love Jetpack Katt!

She really does a great job at outlining the best and worst players!

Thanks! I learned a lot (seriously though)

That was a great read. Its interesting how Jetpack Cat was created. Inspiration from Quantum Physics! Genius! :grinning_cat: :wrapped_gift:

Love all the cat puns :grinning_cat_with_smiling_eyes:

Its also interesting how the Devs tried to balance Fika to be a fitting feline on the battlefield. I think they did quite well overall. Her Ultimate Catnapper is very situational and tricky to do, but overall, I think it was a good idea :ok_hand::cat_with_wry_smile:

“Competitive satisfaction doesn’t have to come at the cost of fun…”

competitive satisfaction IS FUN

this is what happens when people in the industry bend and twist the notion of ‘marketing yourself’ so heavily that it becomes intellectually dishonest. fully irrational ‘everyone is just making everything up, too’ complain never cooperate mentality. NO realized to be at no expense to your own ego willingness to cooperate, NO understanding enough of the Socratic method that you aren’t a defensive egotistical prick in light of any and all feedback because you legit dont understand that other people give criticism/feedback for reasons other than just to be combative (unlike you who can only mentally model others as antagonists because thats what you are you’re a pos). rationality doesn’t exist to these medieval minded “lalalala i cant hear you” idiots.

Since her damage nerf, I pretty much never see her in my QP games.

Without that damage she’s just worse than most of the other popular supports. Further damage nerfs will kill her imo.

I wish she stayed a meme tbh

Mine too. It is one of my fav heroes. I like being able to zip around healing my teammates and doing damage. I know how good her dueling perks are, so I will be sad and understanding when Territorial goes away.

As a solo player and non-comms, I will never be able play Cat to her best with tether because randoms don’t like it. I am not a fan of her tether perk though, the shields come up to slow. I am also not a fan of her headbutt in perk or ult.

I would gladly give up her ult because her hitbox is huge and when people fight back, you will probably die. If not, you end up holding her ult for ages and with the subrole, just extra ult charge all over the place.

“You just don’t understand! It may be miserable, but this is our design intention…”

Ah. I vividly remember this kind of response from the team about the Shadowlands expansion in World of Warcraft. There was consistent negative feedback about the state of the game, focused on several specific core components of the experience, which were ignored or laughed over. When that started to make people angry enough to jump ship, we got multiple monologues explaining how we just didn’t understand that this was their design intention and that we really needed to accept that they would be sticking to it. It was how I and apparently a large number of other people got into a certain other game in the same genre (also somewhat cat-related) enough to turn that game into the new MMORPG success story outside its home market…

Speaking only for myself, I have functional literacy skills and adequate interospection. I am aware that Jetpack Cat’s design is the result of decisions made by other people involved in the development process. I do shoot the cat. Sometimes, that is enough to win, and sometimes it is not. My view is that your design decisions resulted in a hero that, played well, ensures that only one person out of ten in a lobby is having fun. Repeating your marketing pitches does not change my lived experience with your decisions.

I appreciate the creativity in all the characters your team releases. I remember falling in love with this game the moment I saw the first animation, and this latest batch of heroes is no exception. You guys did great with these new heroes! I’ve had so much fun on each one of them with my friends. I don’t have a perfect understanding of “balance” or “competitive play” and I frankly don’t care lol. I’m stoked every time I get to get on overwatch and play some crazy fun characters. (The cats ultimate sound is a straight up jump scare to me now… I only shriek a little bit though)

I’m PURRRRfectly FelINE with the new characters. And can’t wait to see more of what your brilliant team creates from the fathoms of their think tanks! I think you lot ought to know you bring a great bit of enjoyment to a lot of peoples.

:skull: Cat is awesome, problem is most of the community just hates it even though its a fun hero.

Not really interested in the backstory or anything about the char. This is due to the sheer amount of times I see this char in a game. Because the char is new? Possibly. But if the char wasn’t overtuned no one would be picking it.
