Weekly Recall: Going Ultra

Y’all are optimistic with that $25 guess, I’m thinking these are going to $35-$40 easy

Considering they do exactly what mythics do, but with no choices, it seems weird that this wasn’t some kind of cat themed aspect instead.
We needed to make a “new” rarity to achieve this?

So if base legendaries are $20, Mythics are ~$75, then these will fall between at $45-$55 (But take mythic prisms so you either have to buy 50+10 or get some from battle pass).

There are entire games, high production and hundreds of hours of content, that cost less.

Community needs to stop feeding this company so they chill with the price gouging for cosmetics.

I miss the days when the internet was up in arms over horse armor for $2.50.

The reason this all happened is because of how many people bought that though?
Meaning, they were not up in arms. 2.50 was what you had left in your account after buying a real game. It didn’t even feel like a purchase. I know, that’s how I ended up getting it lmao

I need an ultra skin with Reaper where the kill effect is a scythe with screams of the damned and pellets are skulls and also make the real Grim Reaper appear during death blossom with blood petals raining from a bloody sky with blood spraying out from Reaper and also bloody footprints when he walks. Thank you!

Looking forward to still using the default skins.

I agree, but at the same time I can see why they aren’t and it’s partly due to increased expectation as well as standardization. Legendary skins (most of the time) were custom themed skins and outfits that broke the boring low effort “Oh it’s -hero- but blue shirt now” offerings. They rarely had custom sounds or animations.

Mythics came along and we got color swapping, vfx, and animations, so customization essentially. What they’re wanting to do now is create skins that are Legendary that also have some of the perks of a Mythic skin but not the outfit customization (unless i’m wrong about that).

I think you and I both agree that this new tier is what we see as a Legendary quality skin as a consumer (increased expectation) and that’s how other games have them set and distinguished. If they put these new ones at the same price point as all the other Legendary skins that don’t have this stuff then they create a situation where the legacy Legendary skins don’t feel so Legendary anymore because the standard of what is Legendary isn’t the same.

They could have just taken all the legacy Legendary skins and converted them to Epic so that the standard makes more sense, but that would make people upset that paid the Legendary coin price. Safest thing to do is create a new tier at a slightly higher price. More staff are involved than just modelers at this point, so a small increase is anticipated. Maybe 250 coins on top of the traditional legendary price would be reasonable?

Getting us to open our wallets is definitely the reason for their continued employment - the real question is whether these are going to be reasonably priced for what they are or are they going to be priced for whales. All depends on what the corporate suits demand I suppose.

As far as the concept goes I think it’s great and i’m all for whatever creativity they come up with as long as I don’t get Ballerina Mercycina and Junk Junk Sahur in my game. Jury’s out on affordability though.

It’d be nice if VFX and SFX could be used with any skin for that hero as long as we owned the skin that was bundled with them. For example, i’d love to use the Warlock skin SFX on my Adam skin or even the default skin. I just like the way it sounds better.

Still keeping the price a top secret means it must be baaaaad. A $5 upcharge is already pushing it for what’s on offer here, but I’m starting to think it might be $15 or even $20

What is the point of this, wasting resources on something mythics already do… Game just came back and y’all are already killing it for the 4th time

Shouldve just made it so Ultra skins replace tier 80, I feel like people would’ve actually had a positive reaction to this had you done something like that

This feels like the Ragnaros hero skin in Hearthstone. A lot of “mountain out of a molehill” language, repetitive language to trick readers into thinking there’s more here than there is. And no clear expectations as to how they will work moving forward.

Never mind the fact that I know mercy will have three of these before any of my favorite characters see one. Also no customization is a real bummer. I like making unique versions. These seem like just legendary skins. Can’t imagine anything about it will be fairly priced.

Soon the game will look like Pyros hallucinations :rainbow:

So where are the skins

Jack is such a good cat, reminds me of my old cat.

You’re not crying: I’M CRYING!

The cynic in me says that it is very unlikely that they are priced reasonably. I expect this to be exorbitant.

Please do one for Torbjorn. HE NEEDS SOMETHING CUTE! (preferably pink - pink beard?) I’m getting impatient on something cute for him! :sob:

One big motivator in adding Ultra Skins is giving our artists more opportunity to create beyond the technical limits of other cosmetic tiers. As cool as Mythic Skins are, they require certain parameters to be hit

Let’s face it, we know THE one big motivator behind these $kins.

I don’t really care all that much, but I think adding ultra skins at a time when it feels like they’ve almost given up on producing good mythics is a bit much.

Exactly! I have been waiting for a Torb Mythic skin and am disappointed every time he doesn’t get one. I am kind of sad they don’t release the OG heroes Mythics first… But I understand its all about the sales & which heroes people play most.
