Ryan Smith reports in for a forward recall as Flashpoint gets ready to pop off with map reworks in Overwatch 2’s Season 17 mid-cycle.
The new Flashpoint map is absolutely stunning - great job map designers!
Would love to see the return of 2CP with a minor tweak to reduce the amount of time between each round!
At least I’d love to see Temple of Anubis make a return - such an interestingly designed map!
Now that we have map voting it’s the perfect time to bring them back and see what the players truly prefer!
Can’t wait to still vote for hybrid/escort maps because they are infinitely more fun.
In the few QP matches I played, 99% of people voted OW1 maps or anything over push clash and flashpoint.
I hope the devs track what people choose and take a hint.
Point Logic: No More Diagonal Confusion
We’re also adding logic that changes the selection of which point will be active next. After the middle point is captured, the next control point is always going to be closer to the losing team’s spawn. This, of course, gives a bit of a fair advantage to the losing team, but it also removes the possibility of diagonal movement across the map, which is typically the least intuitive way to navigate these maps. We think those diagonal transitions between points count for a lot of player frustration with Flashpoint—so it’s gone now. Yay!
This has been pretty much my only issue with flashpoint. The rng of the next point, and who it randomly benefits. The team who just won or just lost the point. The team who won would have a mile long walk to the diagonal point.
I may be missing something, but I don’t think it’s possible to remove diagonal point transitions entirely. If the teams win points back and forth, then the fourth point will be the diagonal travel.
Well, if after middle point it picks any other point. From there on it will have to go either clockwise or counterclockwise for the rest of the points. To avoid the diagonal.
They said that after the middle point, it picks the next one on the losing team’s side. Is that only after the middle point and then selection rotates in a circle after that?
I’m assuming it is only after the middle point, and then that’s it.
I recall in the dev video for like an hour of going through the maps. They mentioned it only picked adjacent points, so it can’t go diagonal. But that also would mean clockwise or counterclockwise. So I am assuming that is what will happen. But I guess we will find out for sure in a few weeks.
- Stronger Themes: Understanding these maps is crucial, and having a clear visual distinction between areas is key. Many themes will be improved to ensure each area feels stronger, more distinct, and easier to recognize in the heat of battle.
Yeah that’s one of the bigger problems in new junk everywhere between the objectives looks exactly the same and survasa is even worse because 3 or 4 of the objectives are temples. Definitely one of the things I like about Aatlis each point has a distinct color scheme marking the area around it
We think those diagonal transitions between points count for a lot of player frustration with Flashpoint—so it’s gone now. Yay!
man I’ve been suggesting this for like a year now so glad they’re finally doing it it’s literally just a simple logic check on point selection that could’ve cut down on like over half of the walking
Season 17’s midseason update will be the perfect time to give it another shot
Still won’t think it’ll be my preferred vote but it’ll definitely be the best of the 3 bad modes after this
Here is my rework. Get rid of Flashpoint and Push
Unless its any new hybrid/escort map, right? Everyone is stuck on playing the same handful of maps from 2016.
Where Overwatch Classic?
No blizzard, adding a staircase in the middle part of the map where nobody is trying to capture the point is not a rework, this doesnt fix the core issues of a walking simulator with 5 rounds, flashpoint will forever suck, now with a new map finally launched will take another 3 years to relase another. if you really want yo rework this crap make it only 3 rounds
There has not been a new hybrid/escort map since 2022… I see Paradiso and Shambali picked all the time.
You’re right, but TBH, they also mentioned adding things that are aesthetically pleasing/interesting. Personally, I don’t like the idea of dumbing down the map to appease people who don’t know they have to move THROUGH the choke and not just stand in it.
Hating the new escort/hybrid maps is definitely an forum only thing…
I my self enjoy every new map of them be it paraiso or ciruit royal.
Circuit got even more votes then some of the ow2 maps in my games.
Personally, I prefer some ow2 maps over e.g. junk city… junk city fullfills its name in many ways.
people get lost and dont know where the next point is? man is almost like the solution was just put a big arrow in the UI telling you where is instead of a small transparent marker where the point is. or hear me out, an arrow in the floor that tell you the road where the next point is, crazy i know
lol no one voting for flash point
I truly do not know how this disaster game mode still exists. We should toss it out.
