Weekly Recall: Charting The Summit

i wanna see the number though…something tells me random map is selected at like a stupid high rate when payload options arent available

For low and average ranks, yea, prob the case. They just wanna sit at chokes and spam. Would be an interesting number to see, but I think we already have a general idea based on map preferences for all ranks vs masters.

dont nerf sierra, but buff/rework SYMMETRA

What a surprise-wrong again

Consistent Jetpack Cat bans at high ranks have mostly kept that strategy quarantined to professional play. That said, our balance team recognizes the prevalence of aerial feline shenanigans in high ranks and you’ll get some relief when Season 3 drops. Jetpack Cat’s Frenetic Flight fuel regeneration penalty will be increased and Transport Shielding (a Minor Perk) will lose some of its staying power, among other changes. Lifeline will remain a useful tool for Jetpack Cat, but upcoming changes should keep its ability to cause meta mayhem relegated to the pro scene.

“Catstion isn’t picked that much in high ranks. We’re nerfing Jetpack Cat so Catstion isn’t picked that much in high ranks”.

This balance team will never be intelligent, will they?

This makes me skeptical that we’ll see any kind of nerfs to Hazard or Sierra.

The first line.

We are banning her. That’s how she’s being quarantined.

Wouldn’t they have pointed out their ban rate if that was what was quarantining Catstion in high ranks?

They did not cite a number, but they specifically said that this meta is being kept mostly in check on the high rank ladder because of bans. This is consistent with the ban data we have.

Non

How does this prove that exactly? Especially when Wuyang, Mizuki, Anran and Emre all avoided high ban rates.

Wouldn’t it also keep that meta at bay by nerfing Bastion? Since Bastion is also annoying and is frequently swapped to when a team starts losing in every other rank?

I see Bastion being used more than I do with Cat, even when Cat isn’t banned.

Role queue stats only?
What if I actually like having fun?

If you enjoy fun, I doubt you care about Cat bans.

This is true. I would nerf them both.

Cat is used for more than just carting a Bastion around. she is very often used to reposition tanks. This is a very broken strategy, and very easy to perform.

I don’t like that they are nerfing fuel regen. I would attack the core of the issue, and introduce a damage threshold on a tethered target to force a drop, and possibly add a duration to Lifeline.

OK, so Sierra, Pharah and Cat need nerfs? Good.
And while we are at it, get rid of Map Voting, or at least Landslide.

This is our intelligent balance team, though. The same ones that have buffed one part of a hero’s kit and made them egregiously strong, and proceeded to nerf everything but the thing that made them egregiously strong. Sigma is a prime example, and I think Cat will be our 2nd prime example.

They never address core issues.

The freely-available-on-their-website ban rate per rank numbers…?

What’s even more fascinating is that this win rate bump has yet to move the needle on Wuyang’s play rates. Maybe this is a sign to incorporate Wuyang into your Hero pool?

Way ahead of you, Blizzard. I feel like he’s still a bit underrated. :eyes:

please don’t nerf him

Sigma is still a very well-rounded tank, but I do agree about Cat.

The risk to nerfing fuel regen is that she may be based on burst value of Lifeline, rather than healing or damage up-time. This is looking pretty similar to Genji with his cooldown nerf to Deflect, which functionally nerfed his engagement cycle. She may be forced to play too passively in the neutral, with most of her value being in repositioning tanks.

Depending on the severity of the fuel regen nerf, I can see this nuking her not just on the ladder, but in pro play as well.

She is a very unique and fun hero, and I’m not liking this direction.

Bastion without cat isn’t really played at high ranks. He is basically a free kill when out of his tank form so you bait the tank form, retreat, then go all in and you have far more damage than them and Bastion can’t escape.

Cat doesn’t have many other good combos and won’t be played otherwise but at least he does have them. Bastion had nothing.

He was fine before. But they buffed his damage and made him egregiously strong, then partially reverted it. His last nerf was 50HP off his shield and a nerf to one of his perks.

He was well-rounded and fair before, but now he’s well-rounded and does too much of too many things IMO

This would not surprise me at all. Especially with the hitscan dominance in the DPS category, there’d be functionally no reason to play Cat. And this is what frustrates me. They’re unique and fun, but we’d continuously dull them down to the point that you can’t really play them because they’d just get destroyed.

IMO fuel regeneration should just deplete significantly faster when moving a tank so that you can’t take them as far. They can also nerf the fuel regeneration while you’re tethered onto someone or do something to nerf picking up the same target twice in a row.

But, knowing them…they’re going to nerf her healing and damage and flight and perks and cooldowns.
