But instead of Tank, Offense, Defense and Support, it’s now Tank, Damage, Support and Healer. All current Supports a moved to the Healer role, with the exception of Zenyatta and Lucio, whose healing is outshined by some of their utility abilities. Other characters like Sombra could also be moved to the Support category because they arenot a healer and don’t have as much damage output as other Damage characters (currently), but would still can Support their team with hacking the enemy.
I’m not sure how a 4th Class would work in Role Queue, however. Would it be:
1 Tank, 2 Damage, 1 Support, 1 Healer? 5V5
1 Tank, 2 Damage, 1 Support, 2 Healer? 6V6
2 Tank, 2 Damage, 1 Support, 2 Healer? 7V7
If it’s still 5V5, the Support category could act as Secondary Healers or give buffs to Primary Healers. Primary Healers, such as Ana, Baptiste, Mercy, Moira and maybe Brigitte will need healing buffs, but can be freely over tuned without having to worry about two of them synergising, just like the Tanks. Brigitte could very well be either a Support, Healer, Damage or Tank, because the devs had no clue when making her and probably won’t when reworking her.
Maybe some characters can be picked by multiple classes? For example, imagine Brigitte can be played by Tank or Healer players? Or maybe the Support role becomes the Hybrid role and is full of mis-matched characters who can sort of exist and do everything if needed. Hell, Soldier: 76 has average damage and a healing ring, maybe he could be moved to the Support/Hybrid/Utility role.
the last part is what i thought of but his hps currently is 35 which is +5 of zens so he would be in the support, instead of healer. i disagree with tanks being able to pick brigitte because, yes she does act a little like a tank out of rally but only during rally is when she becomes a full on tank support healer hybrid
i feel like that the players in a specified role should only pick the heroes in that specified roles.
The problem with this is it’s work and Blizzard hates work. Instead of fixing problems they remove the possibility of them existing. Like with role que instead of balancing the game they just force you to play 2-2-2.
Still unable to balance the game in a way people want to play tanks, remove them and make it 5v5. I have little faith Blizzard will implement anything to make the game more complicated. Which is a bit sad considering some of the original selling points overwatch was being a tactical hero game.
One where people would counter pick each other, you know the whole point of being able to change hero’s mid match. I am just waiting till they say you can no longer swap heros.
Edit: Oh I and I suppose having to keep track and render less hero’s relaxes restrictions on how well the game runs. Thus they can make OW 2 look better by having less players.
Fair enough, if it’s 5V5 or 6V6, you only really have one Tank player, and you really don’t want that one Tank player to be Brigitte.
The Support Class could also open up the possibility of some comic characters being added, such as Maximilian and Lynx-17.
Maximillian could work as a necromancer type character, summoning Talon bodyguards and setting up surveillance cameras, but not doing much damage by himself.
Lynx-17 being a good-guy hacker could simply apply buffs. I had an argument on another of my posts about all current Supports should do is heal, because the devs are uncreative and couldn’t make Symmetra viable.
Yeah I guess, we went from a team-based shooter where you could all form a viable comp (or play 6 monke), to a 5V5 you HAVE to fill at least each role and everyone is out for themselves Call of Duty knock-off.
Wait Symmetra would make for a GREAT Support character! She might finally be not a joke!
IMHO this would allow Blizzard to focus on the characters that their primary focus should be just healing and then split the other ones who may have more to their kit then just healing, like Brig who has been considered an “off-tank” so to speak prior to her many reworks / adjustments.
That’s exactly my point, the Utility Class is the new Support Class and the current Support Class is moved to the Healer Class. Also, if there is only one Healer, that Healer can be OP AF because the devs won’t have to worry about a second OP AF Healer on the same team stopping even the most stupid of Reinhardt’s from dying all the time.
Also your top example, 2 Tank - 2 Damage - 2 Utility - 2 Healer, is 8V8, which could be a fun arcade mode maybe.
That’s 7v7 btw. I still think either of these ideas would be fun. I wasn’t playing OW during the offense/defense era, so I think having a 4th role would be an interesting change to the game in order to make it feel fresh.
Neither did I, but I just think a Utility Class would be great, but noone wants one less Healer, so uncreative.
Yeah, no. Open Queue is a mess because no one wants to play Tank now and still no one wants to play Tank, which is why DPS queue times are so long. 5 people instalocking DPS, forcing the 6th to play Support, isn’t fun either.
This is the sad part… Supports in other games usually don’t focus on healing, much like Zen and Lucio. Many supports have low, if any, healing. Their whole gimmick is buffs, area denial, CC, and other team assisting effects. Blizzard initially tried to go that route, outside of Mercy, and decided to change the support category into healers only, while keeping the incorrect title for the role.
The game could’ve been so much more interesting had they tried to keep the support dynamic instead of healer.
I KNOW RIGHT? We could’ve had Symmetra Teleporters, Sombra Hacks and Echo Duplication as Support abilities. Even Brigitte was too creative (she did suck tho). All Supports are stuck at a pathetic 200 health and none have actual mobility, except Lucio who really kills first, speed boost second, heal never. Imagine a Flying Support, a Teleporting Support, a Disabling Support, a Bodyguard Support? There is only like 3 viable options, Moira, Ana and Baptiste, the rest got nerfed to the ground or don’t have enough utility to offset their lack of healing.
