We NEED two unranked modes at this point

Aaaaand today, on “People who just don’t listen”, we have Overwatch players, who actively refuse to listen/understand what the developers are saying, and claim the game should not only cater to their preferences, but make changes for the WORSE, so some people can “play it their way”.

Nice.

Because splitting queues and creating more modes will definitely help. Specially with queue times.

Talking about throwing the baby out with the bathwater lol.

Again, just move QPC to Arcade. No new game mode. We get a loose, fun, but mostly “normal” version of the game with no leaver penalties (being in Arcade). And we keep the existing RQ QP for people who want that.

The moment I encounter someone trolling, throwing, and generally not caring about their team or team fights, and then they use the excuse “it’s just QP,” they instantly earn a “Blocking Team Progress” report from me.

Since I only report people for that reason, and I receive “Thank you for reporting” messages 2-3 times per day, I can assume that it works.

same, havent had any thankyou messages tho :weary:

People, including myself, have been asking for this for a while.

We basically had this mode in the Beta and then they removed it…so dumb.

This really reads like you see someone playing poorly, flame them, they respond with “it’s just qp”, and you report them…

This would defeat the whole point of qp by making queues worse.

Also who says the people who feel this way dont play comp? Thats what low ranks are for. You really pulled a lot out of nowhere with this one

Yet other games have had success when it comes to that split in unranked modes.

There’s just a mental block for some people for comp among other reasons, that’s why they don’t really queue for it. That doesn’t exist in more serious unranked modes.

You’re suggesting a pseudo-ranked mode for people that take the game seriously, but are anxious of ranked. A mode that I have never heard of existing as a separate entity in any other game, yet you claim every other one has it. I think the group of people who would consider this is an overwhelming minority. The solution is already nothing but a cognitive hurdle away.

Either way, casual non-serious players are always going to just pick whatever’s most popular. If you try to split away casual players into their own gamemode, nobody is going to play it and the pseudo-ranked mode is going to be filled with casual players. It’s an unsolvable problem.

Ultimately, if there’s nothing at stake, the majority won’t take it seriously. My advice is to turn off voice and chat and just try the damn gamemode designed for your criteria. Then understand that rank doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is your skill level and your rank is simply a reflection of that. Losing rank is akin to getting easier games and gaining rank is worthless

Unranked shouldn’t have similarity to ranked. Practice for ranked shouldn’t be viable in qp.

The problem is simple, folks playing where they shouldn’t. Until they make comp and qp 2 actual different things not a simbolic difference, the issue persist.

When you reach a point of QP skills cant’t be transferable to Comp you get a better matching quality. Which by simply changing mechannics and how the game behave on both modes could do due splitting the crowd with different mindsets. Like what currently happens on QP classic and RQ QP. They differ a bit as tank to demote folks to practice between them, but each doesn’t differ from their comp counterparts which makes both matchamaking suffer at certain degree.

You can only avoid or demote mixed crowd if you create mechannisms that demote that kind of behavior, folks don’t like change or leave their comfort zone. Meaning that if the mode isn’t familiar for it’s tastes/habits they naturally would avoid it.

I think you have very valid points, Paw. And I agree with the direction of the suggestions you made.

I know for myself, there are times where I just want to zone out and focus on simply surviving - getting through a match with as few deaths as possible. At other times, I want to focus on synergizing with others on the team and practice, practically, team tactics. The latter requires a more focused desire to take the match a bit more seriously.

That said, I think Blizzard will make the argument - not unlike voting for one of the parties in our two party system - that creating additional modes impairs their ability to get focused metrics as feedback for broad general gameplay. This is why the Hacked events take over Quick Play, not allowing users the choice to opt in or not if they choose to play. It’s also why the Experimental Card is no longer used.

Indubitably, we would still end up with trolls in the community who would intentionally disrupt the intent of a more serious Quick Play. What I don’t really get a sense of is how much an additional unranked mode would improve the experience for players overall. I’d be willing to try, though, to help generate some metrics around it which would at least better inform Blizzard - and hopefully the community with greater transparency on mode performance from Blizzard - on the decisions being made.

I feel it’s toxic to call people out or display any negative attitude over the unranked version of a video game.

I’m sorry but my games have been ruined less by leavers (the backfill is always better) and more by the matchmaking.

My thing with that is, it’s a inherit problem at that point and nobody should be responsible for strangers personal problems and the advice should be work with what is in your control. Rank itself is only a piece of the pie. The feeling of overcoming adversary (just winning the game when everyone has that same goal) is the risk/point too.

I dunno. There are too many issues underneath

And the first one that comes to mind, is that Overwatch can’t afford spreading its player base along many different modes

Hacked QuickPlay could have been amazing on Arcade; but we got all pushed into it, and it was a disaster

The matchmaking should always be as strict as possible. It is common sense on any game.
Because the algorithm is always responsible for the players experience

the algorithm is always responsible for the players experience

I can’t make enough emphasis on this

Because the moment a Gold player crosses a Plat or a Diamond enemy, he’s gonna blow up.
And that’s it. You are now left in a 4v5 situation

So beyond problems like inflation, or the algorithm been incapable of telling a players true skill, at the end of the day people collide for 2 main reasons

  • Those who want to chill

  • And those who want a challenge

The first ones are usually trying new heroes; or new roles.
The second one demands quality games.

And there is nothing wrong with either of them. The problem is that Overwatch can’t tell which one is doing what

This is why some time ago I talked about the option of giving players the change for telling the algorithm what they want to do

Let players filter which heroes they will be able to play

If I’m a main Ashe and Cassidy, but want to learn Hanzo or Tracer, let me disable my own main characters before entering Queue.
So I won’t be able to select them during match

That way the algorithm will know I have no idea what I’m doing, and therefore it should place me in lower rank lobbies

So we can all learn new characters, or different roles, without having teammates feeling we are sabotaging their games; and specially, we relieve stress from others who now have to carry us

And… we also reduce reasons for players leaving, since everyone is on the same page. For either chilling, or trying super hard

Very important note, is that this would work because there is always MMR involved in the matchmaking; for every role, and every character we play

Doesn’t matter if its Comp or Causual. There is always MMR when creating a lobby

TL;DR
Allow us to Disable :x: which characters we won’t be able to use ingame by Right Clicking on each hero, along a small Reset button for each role; just like the ones we have for filtering cosmetics in the gallery

This way we address toxicity ingame, players leaving, and can all battle for our lives, or chill while bumping Moira against every wall because Arx makes fade look easy xD

is this not just competitive lmao
