I’m in EU, I have a regular job, I watch replays from time to time.
All tanks are dependent on their team.
Next hero will be the Tank hero Shockwave. Punching the air with 10m range making shock waves that destroy shields and projectiles, but barely do any damage to heroes. His “shield ability” are pulse waves luring all the damage to him instead of his allies, if not shot down with his shockwaves.
He’s ultimate is a giant damage dealing AoE Soundwave disrupting shields, so they go on and off for a few seconds allowing to directly damage the affected health, shattering armor and dealing the most damage to everyone that wears it.
Still waiting for that cool main tank.
Orisa more so than others. To say otherwise is just being obtuse.
I’d like another main tank also, but every additional barrier affects the value of othet heroes e.g. Ana, Soldier…
I honestly feel a lot more helpless alone on Reinhardt than I do Orisa because of his range limitation.
I think people confuse “main” tank with shield tank. But the only real defining difference right now is just mobility vs immobility. Anchor tanks are inherently shield tanks insofar, but they don’t necessarily “have” to be. I’d like to see more creative tanks…queue wrecking ball. I think the apprehension about creating another anchor (main) tank is how to do so without another variation of “shield up/block damage”
Viable tanks are all we need and atm they are all viable under certain conditions. And that is a good thing.
I would certainly love more tanks in the game. I’m glad that wrecking ball is a tank.
Wait, Winston’s a main tank?
Since when?
Since always.
Of course we do, everybody’s aware of that. But guess what, main tank is not interesting because of the lack of diversity, and Blizzard doesn’t care that much about main tank community because the player base is not wide enough to be impactfull. We will have another DPS soon enough to make the hero selection screen even more ridiculous than it is right now because 50+% of the players like to “pew pew”. As a main tank player, I feel so left aside that I lost faith, I think we will have to endu…
Also main tank these days are like paper towels instead of brick walls. So its less fun, because you dont feel like a tank. But as soon as your shield is gone, its plop > death

My everyday experience nowadays is more like stunned > death.
Most main tank players I know don’t even bother to play the 3rd main tank of the three, be it Reinhardt, Orisa or Winston, and D.va is reasonably functional as a main tank replacement. I think the list of main tanks we have right now is fine, because unlike off tanks they’re more often redundant in multiples.
and D.va is reasonably functional as a main tank replacement
Against a overly present Zarya ?
Well … no. Unless you like feeding ultimates.
To me, the problem is that tank players are usually specializing in kinds of tanks. Some people are more eager to play main tanks, the other offtanks. And the gameplay is so different that it’s quiet difficult to play both at the same level. I’m a main tank player, I can also play offtank, but i’m never as efficient as when I play main tank.
Holding a frontlane and being aggressive while peeling the backlane, that’s two differents way of playing.
how do we add a main tank that doesn’t overlap with the three distinct purposes of the three main tanks we already have
By adding a main tank with different mechanics from what is existing now. Implying new strategies.
We got an armor based anchor tank, now we need a shield based anchor tank.
The number of people who are under the mistaken impression that Zarya somehow counters D.va is really strange, pro tip: if you don’t press right click, hold down left click and activate E then D.va destroys Zarya.
I’m pretty sure D.va/Wrecking Ball will be the new dive, because Wrecking Ball has the range, damage, disruption and resiliency that Winston doesn’t vs Brigitte and other tanks and dive doesn’t really care about standing behind a shield. Something like Wrecking Ball, D.va, Mercy, Zenyata, Pharah, Widowmaker would be legit terrifying right now.
I think the main issue is that a lot of tank players over identify with the tank(s) they play, if you play D.va then you don’t need to learn to play any of the other off tanks for example, and most people who play main tanks don’t really know how to play them in more of an off tank role (backline Orisa in Reinhardt/Orisa compositions for example). Personally I got thru’ more of the game than I should have with just Orisa and D.va before I was basically forced to learn how to Reinhardt on the maps that demand it.
I’m not necessarily against another main tank, but I think it’s kind of unnecessary right now because we have a good paper, scissors, rock metagame as it is and think double off tank dive will shake things up even further or attack Orisa on assault is actually viable.
Easy, Smoke Screen or some other LOS based mitigation.

Yup, try that in Diamond/Master, then tell me. “”“”“pro tips”“”“”. Yup that’s true, a Zarya that doesn’t know how to charge her weapon can’t counter DVa.
For real.
lol, seriously dude, if a D.va is stupid enough to actually engage a tank over a squishy, let alone a highly charged Zarya with a Personal Barrier off cooldown, then the D.va doesn’t know what they’re doing.
Did you see any Zarya in season 9? No, and it wasn’t because D.va was “overpowered,” it’s because a character with movement and range against a character without movement or range can’t be forcibly countered by their “counter.” I’ve deleted way too many Zaryas, Reapers and Meis to ever take the presumption of those characters being D.va counters seriously, and I learned that in Bronze over a 2.000 SR climb into Plat so I have no idea how it’s escaped Diamond.
