We all have ego problems

Not just OW thing, but generally speaking, you guys noticed how much ego we have in such meaningless thing like an online video game?

I myself learned to play chess specifically to kill that ego because in Chess it’s all on you and your moves. And after that, I have 0 emotional investment in OW or any other game. And that allows me to see how seriously people take this game.

For example, I was playing mercy just for sake of trolling, and there’s this hanzo in a small room, we duel, I kill him. THE ENTIRE match, a competitive match, this guy spent on hunting me. He would literally afk 1-2 minutes in a room, and shoot me from behind. And I would just ping on him, then the team would get him. He was visibly getting madder and madder.
But he would keep doing the same. Shooting me the entire game. The guy took it soooo personally and lost the entire game just because he couldn’t bare with dying from mercy glock.

There are so many examples, like egoistical genjis, who refuse to swap, or people who are about to derank, and they are losing the game and start losing their minds in the chat.

I am not perfect either, but me being a former GM, and now being a noob diamond/master, I feel much happier to play relaxed and worriless.

Not sending any message or trying to claim anything specific here, just sharing thoughts

P.S before you cry, I am actually a diamond/master now. I am not smurfing. It’s just i stopped training aim and playing meta comps, so I deranked naturally.

P.S.S I love how people who definitely don’t have ego problems came here and started to insult me and praise themselves and brag how humble they are. Thank you for confirming my entire post lol

having ego is one thing but OW puts that on an entirely new level because it doesn’t even reward skill so ppl feel like they are doing more than they are being acknowledged for.

I’m too crap at the game to have an ego about it lol.

humble bragging. lose lose situation xD

I’m being pedantic here, but chess doesn’t have any compensation for first turn advantage. There are games you lose because of the coinflip. It doesn’t detract from what you’re saying, just my ego about correctness flaring up.

Don’t forget the ego involved in armchair quarterbacking game design/running a video game company/knowing anything about how businesses operate.

Yea I don’t know why Blizz doesn’t start their hiring searches on the forums

It’s true, but everyone will play around 50% of their games as black, and 50% of their games white, so in terms of 1 match, yes, white has an advantage, but in terms of ranking up and improving, it’s equal for everyone.

Unironically, Blizz is one of the rarest companies to have a big history of doing exactly that. Maybe not today’s blizz, but in the past, definitely a lot of times.

Literally Ion Hazakostas, the wow lead game director is hired from the forums. Same as Alex Afrasiabi.

Yeah, I was just making an example out of myself where you can be right and still have a problematic ego around it.

Battle Mercy have biggest egos in this game ,)

you can’t compare chess and ow, chess is 1 on 1, here is supposed to be 5 v 5, you can even be godlike but eventually your teammates gonna throw.

I tend to believe that the larger the ego with video games like this, in general, the less the person has going on in their real life outside of the game… so they compensate with bravado and trash talk.

It isn’t ego this is the bad design of the game like when you are in school and the teacher assigned you to make random groups to complete a project.

If the teacher assigns you to do the project with long time classmate friends you yield A worthy results.

When you are assigned to random group results will always vary. Sometimes you get the slacker, the loner, the argumentative disruptor, the troll, the hard carry do everything and your final grade can be outside your control.

I probably had some ego way back in 2016 when I was playing with friends, but I saw that the devs weren’t going to treat this game like Owl.

So there’s no real need imo to take a party game like this so seriously. All winning alot shows is you get gaudy pee yellow skinned guns, uglier green guns, a spray and a tank label nobody cares about.

It’s just a game to have fun with. Way too many exploits, cheats, and random variabilities to treat this as something that resembles competition.

Funny enough any time I comment on a matchmaking/game design thread, my comments usually begin along the lines of “I… know… NOTHING”

I think I’d prefer to be on the side of massive ego then on the side of spineless wimp. Especially if playing tank.

i play chess, i also used to play for my college at inter coll comps years ago, i still have ego, no playing chess doesnt remove ego for everyone.

Ego is a good thing and a motivator. All of the best players have an ego, it’s just easier or harder to see it with some people.

It’s when the ego is undeserved that it causes problems.

I don’t. I’m literally perfect.

Any of you like meditation? I’ve been getting into “The Power of Now” in audiobook form, it talks about ego quite a bit actually.
