Is this a thing?
I recently logged in to a “warning” from Blizzard that my account had received multiple reports of abusive or inappropriate chat… but I don’t chat. At all. I play with mics muted and I don’t type anything.
I suspect that maybe I queued into a 4-stack and they all reported me for some perceived gameplay infraction (they didn’t like the way I was playing or something), but why am I getting a warning for chat when I never chat?
Because there is no “system”. It’s literally a bot program that automatically flags your account per report. It doesn’t read anything other than the “category” of the infraction.
There are zero Humans involved, ever. They were fired back in 2018? All bot program now. You cannot appeal it either. You will get another bot response stating as much.
Blizzard is now 25% Human 75% algorithm.
They even fired the art dept. and switched to AI art development.

You cannot convince me that wasn’t AI.
Could be, 4 stacks are cringe. Game needs a solo queue only.
Just played with a 4 stack against another 4 stack. One guy was talking in voice comms while you know the rest were talking in discord zzzz
I think the report system needs a small rework something to make it so false reporting is discoreged for example if a player reports someone for abusive chat yet they didnt talk or they have chats turned off for the entierty of that match the report should go twords the player whos doing the false report
Go back to season 1 or 2 cant remember which one it was and you’ll see Doomfist players complaining about getting suspend from false reports becuase people didnt want to play with them so something needs to be done becaues people shouldnt be able to false report people for whatever the reason may be tho 90% its because the other person was better than them I’d bet
Maybe they were reporting me because I suck. IDK. I don’t pretend to be the best player in the world. Sometimes I’m the worst player on my team.
But it’s not against the rules to be bad at the game. I don’t want to be banned just because my team thinks I am the reason we lost.
They will spam report you for anything even if you ignore them, its a broken automated system that probably bans/ suspends the highest % of players in the history of gaming.
It is, indeed, a thing. There are multiple other threads about it if you search.
You likely won’t be. It was probably just a one-off but if you suspect who did that I’d avoid them for the night (or longer, if you’re in a fringe rank/small pool).
If you do get a chat ban it won’t matter, because you don’t use chats. You could appeal it but it might take longer to appeal than to just save your time, effort, and energy and keep playing.
The system is fundamentally bad and broken and Blizzard acts too poor to fix it.
The system is automated. If someone reports you and they check the abusive chat category (which is probably the easiest to get actioned), then that’s one count of abusive chat for the system. If it gets enough counts, you get the warning/chat ban.
Since people have become aware of this, people who are annoyed at you for any reason have the option to vent that frustration by reporting to trigger the bot. So it’s kind of just down to luck if you run into these people, and if they decide it was your fault they lost or whatever.
The system is automated (and as flawed as possible). They could at least add a check to see if you actually sent a message for a report to be considered at all. No, that’s too smart for a bunch of apes with keyboards.
Something like this:

you can also be reported by your enemies simply because you are better and you will win. especially when you destroy them and use the voice line “is this easy mode ?” … for example…
Thats not how AI works, AI cant do 3d modelling necessary for in game character skin
Yup… people will report for abusive chat just because you did something entirely unrelated that they don’t like, like pick a certain hero, or play a certain way, or not perform as well as they wanted you to, or just wanting someone to blame their loss on.
Suspended atm and I don’t even use chat like you don’t.
There’s literally nothing in the email about abusive chat or anything, just “F off you’re suspended until (date).”
Got the automated response of blah blah blah we uphold blah blah blah, not relooking, etc.
Permanent strike on your IceNine account because the community did not like you. Many players in many matches most likely reported you for INNAPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION since it was the first option. Hardly anyone bothers writing anything through ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK (OPTIONAL): in their reports let alone picking correct category.
I’ve seen people who say “report our widow they’re 3-10” and then even bragged about “I’m giving them 10 reports right now just for being so trash.” If you ever do receive punishment for it you just have to keep sending tickets until you reach a human being and can hopefully get it rescinded.
Makes no sense to even do this because only ONE report counts in a match anyway. So all they have to do is report. They don’t have to say anything.
people will report for simply typing “gg”…if in fact you haven’t typed anything then you’ll be fine.
Not true. You’re simply assuming. The automated part of the reporting and action system doesn’t care if they’ve said anything or not.
Well yeah, they’re saying to to try to upset the person there reporting and be a jerk in general.
right but if in fact you get “banned” or “suspended” for no reason and you appeal it the punishment should be lifted…it’s a flawed system but it’s the only way they want it…they don’t want to spend resources by going through thousands of reports daily or even weekly
