not a report. but with the idea that smurfs belong in higher mmr/rank people should be able to vote other players as smurfs and have the mmr/rank of those smurfs bumped up to higher levels. idk
i mean if the problem with smurfs is that they belong in higherlevels and are nigh-impossible to deal with might as well as vote them out of your playing ‘level’ right?
this isn’t even a punishment. like the automated placement and match making of the game sucks, so might as well give some community based input or something

Smurfing falls under game sabotage, but blizzard never does anything to get rid of smurfs.

This idea isn’t even logical.
Just because someone has an alt account, doesn’t mean their main is Master+. Even if their main is Master+, it doesn’t mean they play the same characters on their smurf as they do on their main.
A lot of people make an alt to practice characters they are not as good with, so obviously they are going to be playing at a lower SR for a while.
I have an alt account that is usually 500+ SR below my main, because I just play whatever I want to play on it and usually they are characters I don’t have a ton of practice on.

i mean sure if you play other characters you’re not good on your alt that’s meant for that SR sure. no one’s gonna call you smurf anyway. afaik people are called smurfs because of they’re higher skill level in lower ranks not just the account level. the account level is just an indication that the account is new. but if your actual skill level matches with your opponents, then they wouldn’t really care would it? the problem with smurfs isn’t the multiple accounts, it’s the difference in skill level.
the idea of this is to bump people of way higher skill level above your rank. and if you truly think you belong in lower ranks and got bumped up, you’d probably fall back into it anyway.
nice dam try but no matter what bs you state smurfing isnt ok in any form
people wanna “practice hero, play off heroes etc” go do it in quick play

Ok what happens when you belong in your rank but one game you pop off and are doing really good, and now everyone votes you as smurf, now your playing matches where you don’t belong because you did good one time

As someone with over 400 hours in qp; it doesn’t provide the same environment of teammates or enemy players. In qp you’ll see battle mercys, 5 dps, people waving and emoting with the enemy, people leaving left right and centre. Comp still has some issues (leavers) but provides a more serious and try hard environment.

hafta agree with this, but still if someone plays in a completely different league in comp then they need to be placed in a higher rank. that seems to be the biggest beef against smurfs

“hey guys can u vote me as smurf pls im trying to get to higher rank thx”
“if you guys dont vote me as smurf im throwing”

then they get reported for throwing? plus how would that person know they get voted as smurf anyway? it’s not an endorsement system, it’ll work like the report system
a “serious and hard environment” dosnt give you the right to come in an ruin matchs for 11 other people just so that you can trash lower skilled players with a “hero your not good with”

hmm cool idea. But it could be abused and put a new player in a higher rank because other people think they are.
Like a bronze widow on a new account accidentally hits a headshot then the guy that gets headshot goes like “these darn heckin smurfs ruining my gamez” and hits that vote button then the guy ends up in silver.
I don’t think it would be a good idea. People would get mad someone beat them, decide they must be against a smurf, and mark them as such. And quite often it wouldn’t be a smurf, just someone got lucky or they were being stupid. Also I think a few people mix up alt account and smurf. An alt account is just a second account, while smurfing is purposefully throwing to play against lower skills players so you can destroy them without trying. Hence why most don’t complain about alt accounts, but most agree smurfing is wrong.
it would take quite the considerable amount of votes to bump someone up, similar to how it takes a lot of reports for someone to get punished. plus if they do get bumped up it usually just takes a loss or two to lower down a rank. (e.g. your sr gets bumped to 2500 which is plat you lose horribly then your back to gold)

I personally know fps+moba vets that roflstomped their way into plat before hitting lv70 on their sole account. I asked what their main was and they said they flex “because they have no idea what they’re doing”. Smurfs are far less of a problem than people think.
You must not play on console.
I made a proposal a few weeks ago similar to yours, a number of “smurf tags” on the user would put them in the next tier match with a “ghost SR” number, if they throw to keep playing in lower ranks then the usual reports will rain on them, if they play at their fullest, rinse and repeat until they are back to their rightful place.

i assume players can give ‘smurf tags’ to other players?
Yep, that’s the thing, like “avoid” or a report, people say it would be abused but in all honesty, being kicked upstairs for a couple of matches because you play better? I mean, for starters, tagging someone like me for example (silver level) would look stupid, smurfs are usually bronze levels and even less than 500 levels overall.

same sentiments. i honestly don’t see it being ‘abused’ like if someone got ‘voted’ upwards to a higher rank out of spite then they’ll just fall back if they don’t deserve that rank, and stuff.
