Voice chat anxiety

If you are concerned with the way people will react to you in voice in a game I recommend finding some friends to play with you to build up the confidence.

For me personally if you’re a girl I treat you the same way I will treat a guy.

Which is to say I’ll be salty as a sailor when you inevitably pick the hero I wanted to play. Jerk. >__<

^_^;

In all seriousness though it’s entirely okay to be wary of voice chat. Place can be either an amazing paradise and boon to your gameplay, or a toxic waste dump.

Legit, honesty opinion?

I’m usually surprised, then somewhat anxious myself.

A good 1/4 of the games I play that have a girl in voice chat end up with somebody being mean to them. Throwing shade, telling them to get to the kitchen, etc. Or they end up trying to blame her for their losing.

It sucks, it really does. It doesn’t happen too often, but often enough that I have to wonder the moment I hear the voice… if we’re going to have some jerks in the match.

Honestly though, I recommend you do voice chat in competitive. If people are mean about it, don’t acknowledge them. Just do your callouts, and do your best.

Practice makes permanent. If you wanna get used to using voice comms, spend some time in group voice with a friend or two.

The transition could be made pretty seamless, but probably prepare for people making fun of you and simps trying to get at you. Have fun!

I never even notice. As long as you are not talking smack about me, I probably do not even realize you are talking. Rofl.

I can’t represent the rest of the world. If you are playing in SEA region, the guys are extreme cases, either nice or nasty.

Female player here, and I totally understand where you’re coming from. I have a medium to low-pitch feminine voice that occasionally gets confused for a male voice. I get very self-conscious talking on the microphone and sometimes just opt not to instead. Please know you’re not alone and that there are others here that share your perspective! <3

I supposed there’s a mix of perspectives but it’s a shame that some people are not tolerant of others despite gender, race, age, etc. Personally I’m a guy and most people on my friends list are ladies that I play regularly with and we don’t judge each other on anything.

I’d say don’t sweat it. If people give you crap for it, block, avoid and/or report and ignore it. Those aren’t the kinds of people you want to be playing with anyway.

In my group that I normally play with, there’s like five women that I play with (and a few guys as well). One of them was getting harassed pretty badly by this kid (seriously, prepubescent). Well the guys and the girls were all telling him to shut up, and eventually all ended up reporting and muting him. If you’ve got some friends you can group with, that can be a huge morale booster when you come up against sexist people like that.

Im not a girl but I have a voice that constantly gets mistaken for a girl and I would say It’s better to stay out of it, thats what I do I play with my mic off now because when I did talk people would constantly say either something sexual, sexist or something along the lines of “Are you a boy or a girl?” if I ignore they ask again, if I ask why does it matter they say “Geez it’s just a question don’t get so offended snowflake” if I say Im a guy they usually stop talking in chat altogether or make some homophobic remark, if I say I’m a girl they go right back to sweet talk, flirting or sexism. I meet more people like this than I do “regular” people who leave me alone (I usually get harassment from both genders…) it’s even worse if theres any kind of argument hostile or not. But also keep in mind my experience could be a very unique one, so I’d say take a chance, roll the dice if it’s too much stop if it’s fine then keep going!

you are simping right now my guy

Just do it if you want to. Most people are actually chill with it. Sexist stuff is fairly rare, but I have heard it directed towards females a couple times while playing this game. Generally, people don’t want girls to feel like they’re “not allowed” to participate in voice chat and the game itself.
