Very odd WinMTR/Tracert results connecting to Sydney Servers

Hi,

I recently changed ISPs from Telstra to Aussie broadband and I’ve been having packetloss issues connecting to Blizzard servers in Sydney. I am almost 100% certain that this is a problem on Blizzard’s end and before someone unhelpfully chimes in and tells me it might be a problem on my end here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Turning various devices on and off again
  • ipconfig release/renew and flushdns
  • changing my DNS settings to both google and cloudflare and the default ISP
  • changing my ISP settings from a CG Nat
  • changing routers
  • reseating every cable in the chain
  • trying multiple computers
  • updating ethernet drivers
  • performing loopback tests
  • performing NTD test

I’ve also probably done other things I’ve forgotten to mention. I’ve also been discussing the problem with technical staff at my ISP and they also think this is a Blizzard related problem.

Now the weird results of the WinMTR tests. The thing that strikes me as odd is that I am getting packet loss but most of the packets seem to be going to the correct destination. However some packets, seem to be routed through a routing black hole and get lost for eternity. As someone with networking experience I don’t even understand how someone would set this up intentionally much less unintentionally. However it gets stranger. It only happens with some of the Blizzard servers.

From my research Blizzard has an IP Block from 37.244.40.1 - 37.244.43.255. Now obviously at least one of these addresses has to be reserved for broadcast rights however I can ping the some of the servers just fine. However I am frequently placed on Blizzard servers that have IP addresses outside these ranges and when I am about 1/6th of the packets just get lost and I sit there with the packetloss symbol flashing. Even more frustrating this usually results in the game disconnecting me after a while because of too many lost packets.

Here are the WinMTR results:

Now I have no idea why some of the packets are just disappearing off into the ether but it’d be nice if this could stop please?

Hi there, sadly I’m not here to help, but to also report that I used to be with Telstra and moved to Aussie Broadband and experience packet loss. Now my situation is a little different in the sense that I seem to experience packet loss with Telstra and Aussie Broadband. Everytime I have talked to either ISP they blame blizzard, and if I talked to blizzard they blame my ISP. It’s a never-ending problem and quite frankly makes the game horrible to play. Blizz servers have been quite odd lately, I hear alot of people saying if feels as though they are lagging but have find ping/IND. Good luck and I hope someone from tech support sees this and can offer some sort of answer. My IND spikes alot and people jitter or skip around :frowning:

Hey,

Yeah its not fun, however I don’t seem to quite be having the same problem you’re having as my ping and IND stay locked at where they should be. Everything seems fine except about 1/6th of my packets just disappear into this bermuda triangle of routing.
