Hopefully it innovates on the genre. That’s the only reason to even try it.

Another reason to try it is valve is probably the best developer for competitive gaming in the world. You want a balance team that’s actually good? That’s valve. That alone could be a huge threat to overwatch. If people try the game and enjoy it, then get a taste of beautiful valve balancing, they’re going to struggle to go back to overwatch with it’s clown balance team. Of course considering these players actually understand what’s healthy for the game. A lot of overwatch players don’t, and think Mauga/Kiriko are good design lol.
Aren’t both of those third person, and battle royale? Where ow is neither of those.

Fortnite is third person and Apex is first person. It’s just an example of two games with a different camera angle that have actively competed with each other.

Gotha, they are also both battle royales. I do think most shooters would still compete with each other, but I know I and many others do not enjoy 3rd person pvp shooters nearly as much as first. And would be unwilling to play third person where much of the gameplay ends up being abusing camera angles to see around corners. Just not my thing.

Blizzard doesnt need any help in killing overwatch, they have that handled all on their own. Overwatch has proven more resilient than SC/SC2/WC3/HotS/WOW, but it is not for a lack of trying.

somehow valve has all the resources to make a new game, but no resources to save TF2 or beef up CS2’s anticheat

Yeah unfortunately it’s too soon to jump to conclusions; I agree with OW needing competition. Hopefully one day this happens so they can pull their heads out of their —.
Nah, BO2 was CoD’s peak. The whole thing went downhill since they added double jumping. I was also a KD 7:1 from being a sneaky troll. I kid you not, no one used ghost despite its extremely high potential thus no one expected it. Attach a suppresser to your overpowered Remmington and you’re officially a troll.
Don’t forget the combat knife and cold-blooded to look like a dead body.
I agree. I think Valve gets most of their reputation and income for supporting Indie developers thus they have no reason to ruin their reputation like most (probably closer to all) AAA companies do. They could honestly not even set deadlines like AAA’s do to satisfy investors. Again, this is something Valve doesn’t have to worry about since it’s privately owned; I hope it stays this way.
Patience is a virtue, this is how Indie games dominate.
I feel like it depends on the game itself. I’ve seen 3rd person shooters that have dynamically different gameplay styles.

I read somewhere online that they purposely don’t invest heavily into things since their website makes them a ton of money; they’re extremely financially stable and they don’t want to risk losing that.
It sucks since they’re also a gaming company, but I can understand the premise of “don’t fix what isn’t broken”, even if it sucks for us

Well, it might at least force Blizz to pick up the slack though.
Not a fan of the 3rd person style however, and it is unusually funny they rather make a new game instead of TF3, now that would be a legit scary one to one competitor.
As it is, I hope it does well and not inherit the same problems of ow1/2. (I already seen marvels and already, I could see issues that once plague OW1 early days creeping in. If Marvel placed a role queue system, then it will be a repeat of OW1 path it takes barring some outstanding balance changes)
Who cares, better than OW is impossible anyway, MRivals proved it already. And TF2 was just a sketch for OW, ngl.
