yeah, right, good riddance cheater, you got caught because you obviously did something
Did you upgrade your hardware?
Seems HyperX NGENUITY latest update could be the trigger, fits with my ban , are you [lapoutre18] running that software. Can only hope this is the case and that Blizzard cares enough to investigate.
I was banned incorrectly myself. On one-hand I know I don’t cheat so I shouldn’t care. However, it DOES bother me and I spent money on OW1 and skins throughout the years. It sucks to lose it all.
I have seen reports of it possibly being linked to an update to HyperX NGENUITY software. I’m not sure, we’ll see.
I am appealing the ban but not very optimistic. If it isn’t reversed, I can’t see myself continuing to play Blizzard games but that might be just talk.
Download your skill, feel the banhammer.
Cheaters, show them no quarter.
Did you make any recent LEE GEE BEE TEE comments in forums or ingame?
Seems HyperX NGENUITY does indeed appear to be causing issues, it caused the same issue with PUBG.
This may be something that needs to be looked at. I also hate cheating with a passion, but the number of times this issue has cropped up leads me to believe something is defo up with regards to false positives.
Think it would be best if the players affected by this update don’t use it and turn off all auto updates until it’s sorted out. Unfortunately I’d be surprised if any false bans are reverted.

Do you have " HyperX NGENUITY" on your PC? I got banned today for the same reason “hacks” . I saw a post on reddit that say there might be an issue an people with that program are getting banned. I have that program for my headset so I wonder if its an issue with that. Hope this gets visibility and fixed I share a similar story to you with so many hours on this game.
This happened to me as well tonight! I got permaban for cheating on both of my accounts… I’m devastated! Reading the comments about HyperX NGENUITY makes me think that is the problem for me too, because I do have that software installed. I tried to make an appeal for both accounts but I don’t know if they will do anything, however I’m hopeful as this seems to happen to a lot of people. The weird thing is that it wasn’t like I installed HyperX NGENUITY today, I’ve had it on my pc for 1 year or so. I don’t understand why this would start causing an issue today. It’s not like they patched anything right? Or maybe they patched a new cheats detection system today and it was flawed… I really hope this gets solved for us.
I understand you, the same thing just happened to me with both of my accounts. I just lost 5 years of playing the game for something I never did, which is to use hacks.
A friend had the same issue today, and another friend of a friend, SAME DAY.
Probably hyperx Ngenuity. Please check the forum post from Fennek and joint the discord so we can gather data and try to build a case
got banned after playing less than 10games in the last 3 days seen many people say they are inoccently banned in the last 48 hours the common denominator is HyperX INGENUITY software it auto updated to version 5.19.0.0 and overwatch anti cheat saw it as cheats never cheated in my life i got 4000+ hours on cs and 1000s more on other shooters i doubt people would think i would cheat on overwatch if i barely play the game and not even good either
it’s so funny yet so depressing that the developers really messed up this bad. remaking their game from scratch, including anti cheat system, so now their banning programs that aren’t even used for cheating. i wouldn’t even be surprised if i got banned next for having Apple Music Preview open on my computer.
something’s going on, no idea what, but it’s probably the fault of all the jr devs that were hired with the senior devs being fired. god this game is going downhill
not cheats HyperX INGENUITY got wrongly flagged for as cheats by the anticheat theres a discord with more than 40 people all exact same reason exact same time excact same update on exact same version all people that denie ever having cheated which i understand cheaters would do aswell but this is legit a wrongfull ban streak in the last 48hours since the hyperx update which btw updated automaticly though microsoft store
The part that strikes me if this ends up being the problem then… is that this is a day, non-banwave planned… and there should have been SOMETHING that told SOMEONE “Hey… we had a spike of bans today someone should take a glance”. And then their “detection” system should have gone “hey… it’s because of this program” and SOMEONE should have gone and freaking googled what that was. My job is heavily couched in pattern detection and Reason-for-outage finding and I can tell you my projected management time to find the problem is about 30 minutes. If you gave me all of that info I could have told you in 10 that “hey… we have an issue that should be looked at”.
Likely they don’t actually have the name of the program… just some hook it’s using or asks for… but people with software experience SHOULD know that this could be used for things other than cheating and a spike of bans coinciding with a common piece of software being updated should have rung a bell in someone’s head.
BUT…
Nobody even twitched to look at the spike.
The callcenters went right on form-letter rejecting the appeals.
Nobody is likely even looking at this till monday.
that is depressing but yea that was bound to happen. corporatism and unfortunately it doesnt happen only in video games. the world is a scummy place sometimes
also cant judge since in many businesses the senior devs get complacent, lazy and want to much money. then you go hire the junior dev thats cheaper. still its probably mostly a greed thing by the business… who knows
It is likely they have pushed out a new defense matrix patch, and it has been a bit… dicey.
Detection of stuff like this is hard, there are false positives, and Blizzard has typically fixed it around a week later.
This isn’t the first time this has happened.
False positives in programs like these happen from tie to time. Heck this isn’t even the first time OW’s anticheat caused false bans.
Anticheat, like anti-virus, is more of an art, not a science. It involves lots of really weird tricks and trying to detect signatures and patterns fo malicious applications, and it’s not feasible to test your anticheat against every piece of software in existence - especially if it’s a case like this where the program was just updated. Blizzard’s anticheat may have been updated and been running in the wild just fine for weeks if not months before hyperX put out their update.
But if you look up most large name game studios, almost all of them have had false positive issues in the past that they’ve had to roll back. There’s really nothing particularly surprising about it. It’s just a matter of how they handle the situation.
This of course also assumes that all these claims are true. Many people could easily be saying “Oh uh, yeah me too! I have that installed as well!!” to feign ignorance. But if it’s really as obvious as that specific program being the issue, Blizzard should have a really easy time installing it and verifying it causes some issues.
