Turn off intel speedstep in BIOS for performance boost

[WARNING: DO NOT DO THIS ON LAPTOPS, WILL FRY YOUR LAPTOP WITH 100% CERTAINTY]

If your CPU temps are good and if you want performance boost go to your BIOS and turn off intel speedstep. After you’ve done it monitor your CPU temps under load to make they’re still fine.

Your performance will increase and be more stable, but with the drawback of increased power consumption from CPU when it’s on idle, low load.

It’s safe to turn it off, just don’t tinker around with anything else in BIOS without knowing what you’re doing. Speedstep is basically just there to decrease power consumption from the CPU, at the cost of some performance and stability.

Do not do this on a laptop, it will overheat and very possibly destroy your laptop.

These are my performance gains:

speedsteep on:
2019-03-26 03:54:39 - Overwatch
Frames: 15488 - Time: 82563ms - Avg: 187.590 - Min: 146 - Max: 211

Speedstep off:
2019-03-26 04:10:30 - Overwatch
Frames: 19469 - Time: 95360ms - Avg: 204.163 - Min: 175 - Max: 230

I benchmarked it with costum benchmark preset, basically all bots have 0 cooldowns and never die and spam ults and abilities, in eichenwalde first point with every bot in sight for 1 and a half minute. So basically exaggerated team fight conditions.

I will probably give this a try tomorrow.

Mostly because, as of late, I’ve noticed that my frames are starting to dip when fights get really hectic on screen and there’s a lot going on. It seems to have started with the release of Baptiste.

Before Baptiste, I always held a steady 144frames (all settings on low, even nvidia GPU settings set to max performance). But now, typically at the start of a round when everyone is running out of spawn, there’s a temporary dip in frame rate.

What MOBO do you have? I might be able to give more tips.
