Tracer wasn’t really ‘too safe a bet’ tbh. If they went with Zarya then yeah, super stereotypical and ‘too safe a bet’.

It just so happened that people went nutty over Tracer/Widowmaker for whatever reason and the devs happened to go “hey tracer is gay my dudes”.

Also, shipping doesn’t hurt anyone until they try to force said ship onto the writers and other people.

I may not like Pharmercy, but I’m not going to stop the shippers from enjoying it.

Hmm… honestly I’m indifferent to most of the personal lives of any of the heroes in Overwatch. I do however find that most straight people in the community don’t care about Tracer’s sexuality. And I have also met many people in the LGBT community who hated Tracers sexuality being revealed. So you can’t please everyone it seems.

As someone who has seen a ton of shipping communities, no it will not crack or ruin your community for them to give background lore to the characters. And more importantly, your niche community shouldn’t cause the rest of us to be unable to enjoy the game’s lore to it’s fullest.
