The issue is unchecked mobility. Dive heroes typically get to ignore the frontline and go directly to the backline. This was a problem kept in line by stuns, but stuns were neither fun, skillful nor healthy for the game. Blizzard, unfortunately, lacks the capacity to think outside the box and just moved all stuns to the tank role instead of coming up with a counter to mobility.
Supports, while not defenseless, typically have to burn all of their abilities just to deal with a dive hero. If they make even a small error in the timing of those abilities, they’re just fodder.
This problem was largely solved by Brig’s existence, but given just how tanky she was coupled with her ability to not only make squishies tanky, but also bully tanks, it made the game inherently unfun for all.
Fast forward to OW2, and we are in the same situation that brought about Brig and GOATS meta with the sole exception being that the game is 5v5.
Gets killed on lucky shots. That’s pretty much what OW has become. Tracer will kill me over and over and over, and if I manage a lucky shot that kills her, just once, she needs a buff.
No, they’re not lucky shots. Tracer comes within distance of easy headshots for kiriko. It only takes two headshots unlike reaper and others. She’s not a problem for support. Her mobility is great though!
