this being the second archives mission we see tracer in =/= tracer’s second ever mission
we have no idea how the mission will go. tracer being the leader does not mean tracer succeeds as the leader, or doesn’t learn a valuable lesson from the attempt
Grew up on a space station as a test monkey, when things hit the fan instead of banding with his fellow apes he escapes could have hated humans, harbored hate for them his entire life just as his brethren did yet what did he do? Saw the humans as his family. Overcame adversity against his fellow apes and escaped back to Earth.
Winston goes on, joins Overwatch and still admires humans and puts on a brave face despite the only family he had ever known had been slaughtered. STILL CARES for tracer in her foolishness.
Then our boy comes out faces off with Doomfist and SINGLE HANDEDLY puts him away because tracer was too foolish and arrogant to put Doomfist away. Overwatch goes head and get shutdown after the revolt and then what does he do? Go into seclusion, feels pain for all that’s happened. But he doesn’t give up hope, he’s invaded! Oh no!
But what does he do? Fights back! Gets up and BEATS reaper and recalls Overwatch. Then he faces Reaper again AND BEATS HIM while also carrying tracer through the fight because tracer again is too arrogant to finish the job. Now two times where Tracer couldn’t get it done but Winston secures the win. But after all this, all this heroics. He’s still howling lonely and has actual self doubt, unlike your girl tacer who’s 0-2 on her own vs talon.
As for positivty, courageousness and all that jazz most characters in the game have those traits.
Meanwhile my boy Winston is humble, could have basked in his glory after beating DM but secludes himself and battles his demons. Tries to be brave, but must show that he can pull this off. So much he wants to prove despite showing he’s a hero.
This is shortly after his surgery where they basically only did it if he agreed to join them and considering his past and what happened to him I would call that questionable loyalty.
The Genji of now who was helped by Zenyatta is not the Genji of back then.
A leader must be more than simply an effective fighter. They have to be daring, inspiring, charismatic, a trail-blazer willing and able to make tough choices pushing forward regardless of adversity, all of which are qualities Tracer possesses as an experienced ace pilot on experimental aircraft and globe-trotting adventurer. Winston may be a good teammate and an incredibly strong ally, but at the end of the day he’s still an awkward egghead scientist.
I feel that just reducing Winston down to awkward egghead scientist is a bit unfair. Yeah, he’s not the best in social situations and known more for his smarts than anything, but he has the makings of a great leader. It’s clear that he has hope for humanity, mostly due to the teachings of his caretaker. The words of Harold are words he lives by. He wants to fight for what the world could be, wants to push for the world’s greatest potential.
Yeah, he can be a goofball at times, but he’s serious and bold when it counts. We see this in the opening video when we all booted up Overwatch for the first time, and we can assume that’s how he’s always carried himself. Bringing back Overwatch will violate the Petras Act and will therefore make all Overwatch agents illegal vigilantes, but he’s willing to take that risk because he realizes the world needs them now more than ever.
He’s goofy and awkward at heart, but he’s serious when the situation calls for it.
Okay so at the time of the operation he is the Strike Commander and you dont send the head of your organization on field work unless you absolutely have to because if he dies the entire leadership has to be shuffled.
Winston is more then an effective fighter! He’s the guy who’s given the rallied call in sheer bravery against the world I might add. Which is a pretty tough choice that he’s pushing through.
You know what Tracer did in that little ship or plane she piloted? Got cocky! Like she always does and got owned for it. Then who saved her life? Winston! Who has made tough choices? The ones that are responsible for Overwatch coming back? Winston! Who is doing his best to stop the slaughter of former Overwatch members? Winston!
Call him what you want but he is MUCH MORE of a leader then some chick that flew a plane, got cocky about it and is now pretty much unstable. Winston has pushed through MORE adversity. What charisma does Tracer have? Her accent? She hasn’t show any charisma, ‘the world could use more heroes’ she says as she forgets that the boys were CHILDREN who could have been killed if Widow and Reaper had felt like it.
Anyone can be a globe trotting adventurer but a leader also has to be RESPONSIBLE.
I completely agree, Winston has great potential to become a leader as well, though he’d have to work through different aspects of his personality to do so. I think Tracer OTOH already had the makings of a leader following her career as an experimental ace pilot, something I’m sure Jack could sense after she gave her bold opinion on the Kings Row uprising which persuaded him to approve the mission, I think her willingness to fight for what’s right reminded him of something important about their mission, and it’s that element at the heart of what Overwatch truly meant to the world.
She’s done nothing! She’s never led before! Her biggest moment before the omnic getting shot was getting destroyed by doomfist. Not leading a thing, meanwhile you know who did take lead in that fight? WINSTON. It’s always Winston.
You say she’s charasmatic yet she’s extremely irresponsible and brutally unaware of her surroundings. (cough blinked when madnotta got shot cough) yet she was soooo worried about him. She got so wrapped up in fighting she forgot what widow was trying to do in the first place for crying out loud.
Hmmm I really can’t tell if you’re just intellectually disingenuous, a shameless Winston fanboy, trolling or simply unable to honestly recognize Tracers good qualities. She went from being an ace pilot and dove straight into the King’s Row uprising in a heartbeat, convincing even a cynical and disillusioned Jack Morrison to do the right thing, which ultimately did lead to a successful mission and the freedom of the hostages (among which, BTW, included a younger Mondatta, it was thanks to Tracers natural goodwill and courage that he was able to survive the uprising and become such a celebrated peacemaker in London). Yes she has experienced failure, no different from other leaders just like Jack when Overwatch was disgraced and disbanded, and just like those leaders she continues to fight.
So many people saying Tracer can’t lead, and blaming it on poor writing…
Watch as the event canonically has Tracer’s poor leadership skills lead the team into a trap, and Winston takes charge (this being his big moment that gets him recognized as leadership material by Soldier)
