To healers in comp

then they usually call it : “dps doing nothig”
Sure I am doing nothing, but looking for healthpacks right after my second dps.

As someone who normally takes the Support or Tank slot, I get this a lot when I do my DPS placements and climb attempts. It’s not even me being out of place when I die.

I take damage, I fall back behind my tanks and ask for heals. Sometimes I do get heals, but a lot of times I find my Healers just pumping all their resources into tanks that are barely hurt while I’m hanging on by 10 health and a dream (and maybe some tape and gum let’s just be honest). Yet when I die I get sassed by my healers for not being where they can heal me despite me being right beside them and sometimes even trying to stand in their way so I can get their attention.

Now it’s one thing if I’m out of place, I will readily say that it was my fault, because I’m constantly in the shoes of healers. I know the pain of being blamed for something that is beyond my capability.

It’s usually Ana’s, I’m not even going to tip toe around it.

Mercy’s will readily look around for me and fly to me if it’s safe enough.

Lucio’s will change to heal for even the briefest of moments if they can afford it.

Zen’s will give me a few seconds of Healing Orb before casting it back on the tanks (which is fine, a few seconds is like 50 more health than what I had before).

Bap’s are forever trying to nail me with their nades.

Moira’s toss an orb at me if they can’t reach me and don’t want to put themselves in danger or in a position that takes them away from their tanks.

Brig’s sometimes give me way too many healing packs.

But Ana’s? I’ll ask for healing and they’ll just keep on shooting at everything else.

Supports and tanks first
Always

In elos like plat and diamond and lower this is often the case. I’d say that once one gets further into diamond and closing up to master it happens less. Although it still happens from time to time. I’d also like to mention that I’ve had great experiences with Anas in plat too.

This is also something that often is the case. It completely depends. I’ve often positioned myself good as dps and asked the " I need healing" thing once and still not gotten healed when Ana is infront of me or behind me. I sometimes feel like supports get tunnel visioned. Which we all do from time to time there is no question about that.

A lot of times when I die I know it is my fault to blame by over extending as dps. Other times it is because my Reinhardt drops his shield against widow (arguably I should have been behind a wall instead of his shield, I progress)

To conclude

  • Sometimes…
  • Ana’s miss their shots.
  • Other supports tunnel vision.
  • Tanks don’t peel for their DPS or Support causing it to be a lack of heal.
  • DPS are out of position or miss a cruical shoot against an enemy causing them to die.
  • DPS take a one vs 3 stupidly thinking they can win (literally me).
  • DPS standing alone in the open on example: Junkertown.

Many times people like to find others to blame for their own downfall. Which in some cases are true but does not tell the whole story. The game is about teamwork just like life is. Although it is about teamwork one must take credit for ones own mistakes. Sometimes it is indeed another person not helping you out causing you to fall, but you should not always relay on such.

You are expendable as DPS, accept it. Just keep fighting and dying, while tanks will try to hold the line, with supports to back them up. Unless, of course, you show exceptional skill.

Most times they die cause they refuse to take cover or don’t realise they are out-of-sight (behind a wall or even infront of the actualy msssive hitbox tank) to be healed.

Seriously if you need healing badly please take actual cover and not expect healers to go into the open and then be abandoned to die and still be blamed when you are not healed cause you refuse to even realise your healer is DEAD

Seriously looking at all the Genji’s at like 30 HP to just ult into the enemy team after going solo for so long and then blame they died. Stop blaming healers for your stupidity

And then everyone else die, because there is no more tank, so no more cover. The end.

I have seen many threads like this saying to heal, but really what about the health? What if it’s really low and others are too, that means that we can’t heal all. So please, think about your teammates too

I would also ask that my non-tank team members play in a way that allows me to heal them. I sometimes spend several seconds frustratingly trying to get in line of sight of my Genji/Echo/Widow or whatever only for them to refuse to let me help them. Then they die and spam “I need healing” at me. Sometimes they’re running away from me to get a healthpack, which means I have to either chase them or stay with the rest of the team, either of which could be the wrong choice depending on the situation.

Let me heal you, DPS. It’s what we both want.

What if the Ana only heals the tanks, because they are easier to hit? :eyes:

I like volunteer posts like this. Lead by example.

I never wanted that, personally the reason i loved overwatch was because it was a different type of fps, but yeah this seems to be a major problem, with the barrier deaths
but also I totally get that healers have to focus on everyone, and if its the only healer, im not upset about dying
im just annoyed at how often I’ll be (on their screen) critical and they’re just healing rein who isn’t being overpressured

As the saying goes- if you want something done right do it yourself.

Hence I think why I got into support in the first place.

I won’t say that healers don’t make mistakes or even tunnel vision because I’ve done it before and I’ve seen a lot of healers on the same time do the same whether it’s lack of knowledge of how supports function or just sheer laziness.

There isn’t much you can do about it and it’s something that all roles deal with, it’s just the most visible with supports because… well people die. It’s a lot harder to point out the errors for dps because their effects are a lot more hidden, tanks are more visible depending on the characters and what job they are trying to pull.

For the supports with lack of knowledge, not many people realize that triage is actually a very complex skill to master and it’s a skill that’s pretty much used just for the support role.

But yah, if the healer is still healing a Reinhardt that is not engaged in a fight or taking damage they are wasting resources or that is their friend or maybe they don’t like you for whatever reason.

Depending really. For support like Zen, sometime it’s best to over heal by putting it on someone who you know if about to take damage. Or Lucio who have heal on on. Also I think in game when you overheal it just stop registering the input, so there probably won’t be a counter for it.

Personally I think one of the most important things in a team should be 1 aoe healer (Brigitte,Lucio,Moira,Baptiste) and 1 single target healer (Zenyatta,Mercy,Ana).
The aoe provides low healing to everyone which is very helpful for dps since they don’t require a lot of heal while the 2nd healer is more about healing the tanks and dps if needed.

Ofcourse it’s not perfect science and sometimes other combos work better, but for me I like to start w/ one of each for maximum potential and then change according to the enemies.
2 aoe is also fine, worse than 1-1 but still fine but 2 single targets is usually death… I’m fully aware of Ana-Mercy being aware and fully aware of every time I died quickly because this combo can’t heal 4 different people unless you’re playing in a very high rank.
